The prospectus is a task that is as intimidating and daunting, as writing the research paper itself. The main goal is to present the proposed research in a way that is as efficient as possible and arouses interest from readers to obtain further insight into the subject. I believe that I have succeeded in outlining the research subject, and explaining why it has been selected. The Research Prospectus indicated a shortage of previously conducted research regarding higher education, thus emphasizing the relevance of the research in this area. The essential research ideas which were put forward in the research were backed up by scholarly sources.
Any research invites a student to reflect on his insight and input into the researched subject. Compiling and putting together an array of sources relevant to the research is an essential stage in a student’s development. With an abundance of materials and information sources, I learned how to prioritize the information, eliminate the irrelevant source, and shortlist only the most essential ones. Once the relevant sources have been selected, it takes time and effort to learn how to impart a scholarly shape to them, link them, and relate to the research issue with personal input added. The preparation for the research cultivates essential skills such as diligence and critical thinking
The process of preparing for research made me realize that some of the most unexpected and intriguing discoveries are made when writing the paper itself. Irrespective of the time and effort invested in planning the research, and knowing exactly what to write about, one will be faced with questions, the importance of which was realized at the planning stage. This, however, does not imply in any way that the preparation phase should be neglected. It is essential to realize that it is only thorough research that will help you bring the right questions under the spotlight.
In my research process, I have learned to utilize the academic material and summarize the views expressed by the prominent scholars. Having analyzed the research process, I have realized that some of the passages lack insight into my personal views and opinion on the proposed research. It is true that in my research I have attempted to be objective and neutral, although more input consisting of personal reflection might have been added. The research threw a spotlight on the shortcomings and limitations that might surface in the process. All of the variables were taken into account, although as I contemplate enhancing the research, workable or possible solutions might have been offered to limit or bring the shortcomings to a minimum. With this in mind, future research will consider the above reflections.
The most important thing that I have learned even before commencing on the research is that the research problem needs to be selected in terms of its relevancy. The problems facing researchers today lies in the fact that the abundance of scholarly and academic materials and prior research leaves limited space to present-day researchers (Carr & Kemmis, 2003).
Selecting a pressing research issue that remains understudied is not an easy task for a present-day research undertaker. A topical research problem provides fertile ground for analysis and personal insight. Applying the same relevance principle in the context of life and future aspirations mean that life goals will also be set based on their relevance and importance. Similarly, in the work context, the most relevant projects and assignments must be selected. The skills cultivated in the course of preparing and writing the research may be instrumental in reaching life goals.
