Introduction
This speaker conveys that confidence is the necessary engine to start a global revolution. Her primary idea is that it is the choice resulting in a world of equality and justice for every nation, race, and gender (TED, 2019). Even when people fail and make mistakes, they need the confidence to keep going. Considering that nowadays, the world has enough resources, knowledge, and assets but still lacks equal rights, it should promote revolutionary confidence to resolve this issue and bring more ambitious ideas into reality.
Discussion
Since the speaker is an educator and activist, she has enough experience with students from diverse backgrounds, including people of color and disabled children. She emphasizes that these students are the least privileged regarding confidence boosting, as the world constantly marginalizes them (TED, 2019). That is why Cunningham invites more people to be interculturally competent, forcing me to realize that people punish the confidence of discriminated groups because they do not fit into their preferred archetype. Therefore, I have realized that putting more effort into encouraging these children to show their confidence is a critical global task.
Promoting confidence starts with realizing a person’s potential, which is a step before appreciating other cultures. When a person is confident, he is ready to embrace all life experiences, meet more culturally diverse people, and interact with the world more. However, when he does not recognize his culture, he can never resolve critical problems and communicate with people with opposing views as he lacks self-awareness. It justifies that culture reflects our personality, meaning that the person who does not respect his lifestyle cannot appreciate others.
Conclusion
Apart from these ideas, I agree with the speaker that community is integral to confidence. It either rewards someone’s confidence or punishes it, causing more inequality (TED, 2019). Praising everybody’s confidence facilitates equal opportunities and chances. The speaker’s idea that “none of us are free until all of us are free” inspires me to support confidence in every individual (TED, 2019, 12:50). This video is helpful for people who do not realize the power of confidence, as it contributes to improving the world’s fragile confidence.
