The primary goal of the questionnaire is to measure the satisfaction with the overall academic performance and determine the fundamental influences on it. The first variable can be defined as family issues’ effect on the school performance. The second variable is the recommended changes in an educational institution and personal life setup. Moreover, the subjects with the highest academic performance are also the variable of this survey.
It could be said that all variables mentioned above can be considered as nominal, as they do not provide the ratio and can be systematized according to the keywords. Additionally, the questionnaire includes ordinal variable the overall satisfaction of the performance in class.
As for the correlation coefficient, it will be interesting to see the interdependence between the presence of family issues and the overall performance in class. Calculating the correlation coefficient between family issue and other performance and change indicators will help determine whether the atmosphere in the family and the lifestyle has a significant influence on the performance of the students and his/her ability to study effectively.
As for the activity two, after watching the video I was able to replicate the analysis on my computer and got the same result. The correlation coefficient is 0.949288.
It is apparent that theory is the essential element that composes the design, as theoretical knowledge contributes to the generation of new ideas (Cohen, Manion and Morrison 330). Moreover, it is apparent that not only practical knowledge such as collection information about the variables with the assistance of survey is needed, but also literature review since it is essential to determine necessary theoretical knowledge.
Additionally, it critical to distinguish between different types of measures to perform sufficient classification of the results (“Nominal, Ordinal, Interval”). Furthermore, it is vital to find correlation coefficient between different sets of data since it helps see the interdependence between variables. In my opinion, an ability to compare different data is a necessary instrument, which determines the outcome and relevance of the research.
