Article Summary
In the article “The World Bank must take bolder action on climate,” the author outlines actions the World Bank should take to combat climate change. Furthermore, Bloomberg (2023) argues that the organization needs to finance more projects to address the environmental factors affecting the planet. However, the World Bank is obliged to participate in implementing the Paris Climate Agreement, which means that it should prioritize assistance to developing countries.
Bloomberg (2023) suggests that the World Bank should increase funding to help these countries access alternative energy sources to reduce their emissions. Moreover, the organization’s management understands its responsibility to the world’s population and has planned to increase climate-related project grants by 35% by 2025 (Bloomberg, 2023, p. 2). Accordingly, in the future, the World Bank should become one of the primary actors in maintaining sustainable environmental development.
Use of Data
It is worth noting that the author presents climate data in the article as reports on climate change occurring today. For example, increased warming and deteriorating weather conditions are caused by developing countries’ limited access to energy resources. Accordingly, they obtain energy through older methods, thereby threatening the environment through gas emissions (Bloomberg, 2023). Thus, to address this problem, investment in the energy sector must be attracted. As a result, increased funding will reduce the emissions of gases into the atmosphere and the waste into water bodies resulting from coal mining and processing in developing countries.
Personal Opinion
I am positive about the article “The World Bank must take bolder action on climate” because I agree that the World Bank should do more to mitigate the negative impact on the planet. Therefore, increasing funding and investment in the energy sectors of developing countries will help combat climate change. In addition, I was interested in this topic because I am actively engaged in activities supporting the sustainable development of the Earth and monitor news about measures to combat climate change.
