Summary
The book’s main topic and themes revolve around three sisters, Delphine, Vonetta, and Fern. They traveled to their mother through the United States (Williams-Garcia 5). Consequently, one of the main topics of the book is family and relationships between its members. Personal growth and self-development are other crucial themes due to the new findings that the sisters obtain while communicating with their mothers.
The point of the book is to show the necessity of an unbiased attitude toward another person while hearing their entire story and past. The topics and themes are presented in a narrative manner when the sisters travel through the states and then speak to their mother. In addition, this book is about the family roots and parents and children.
Assessment
The book is a valuable piece of literature. It is compared with other books in my bibliography by making an accent on African-Americans’ lives and their peculiarities. The information is thorough and reliable throughout the book. One should highlight that the book is objective due to its purpose of eliminating biases towards African Americans. The narration through the family history is a great way to discover the story of African Americans and the specific obstacles that occurred in their lives.
Reflection
One Crazy Summer fits my research by highlighting particular historical aspects of the living of African-American people. The book contains various factors that will be essential while constructing a thorough picture of these people’s lives in the final paper. Therefore, this source was considerably helpful to me, and it helped shape my argument as the point of necessity of exploring the history of minorities and their concerns with the purpose of understanding their current problems and issues. However, the resource did not change how I think about the topic because it stresses the facts I already knew.
