Introduction
Time management is an essential skill for top performers in the business world. These performers range from managers to employees in various successful organizations, especially in the United States. The video “20 Tips for Better Time Management” was published by DIMA Business Solutions Private Limited on July 4, 2016.
Discussion
It explores the best practices individuals should follow to be more productive in their work. Some of these practices include creating a plan for all activities, allocating specific time for each task, and learning to say no. Others include having a clock or a watch, setting reminders, avoiding distractions, and eliminating time wasters (DIMA Business Solutions Private Limited 0:10-1:30). The video also concludes that leaving buffer time in between and cutting off when necessary helps in time management. Therefore, people should all embrace time management as a skill required to be efficient and productive in all aspects.
The video “How to Take Notes in Class” by Thomas Frank was published on October 9, 2014. It explores the five essential note-taking techniques generally accepted to be excellent and reliable. These include the outline method, where an individual takes notes systematically by following an outline with topics and bullet points. (Frank 0:40-1:35). The second note technique is the Cornell method, where note takers divide their paper into three columns. According to Cornell’s system, the top column of a paper should have a cue column and a note-taking column. The bottom side of the paper should have a summary section (Frank 1:40-2:30). The third note-taking method is the mind map system. In this method, individuals should draw a circle in the middle of the paper and then write the main topic. Next, they should create branches away from the circle to write down sub-topics (Frank 2:31-3:25).
Conclusion
The fourth method of taking notes effectively is the flow method, invented by writer Scott Young. With the flow method, one should learn while taking critical points during a lecture because it fosters holistic learning (Frank 3:27-4:28). The last method is to write on the slides method. Slides help one to keep time and consume only quality notes (Frank 4:30-5:30).
