Growing investments in early childhood education are driven by evidence that intensive, high-quality programs can deliver significant returns on investment for parents and children (Miller & Bassok, 2019). Such a program impacts the K-12 school system, as it will give all children an equal chance to learn before school. However, the families that stand to gain the most from a free, public preschool program will undoubtedly be excluded from programs that adapt to K–12 timetables (Sullivan, 2021). A preschool program will prepare a child for a P-12 school, as they will enter the education system before kindergarten.
A quality preschool program should take the form of a game, but one that focuses on developing the child’s primary social skills. Children should learn empathy, communicate effectively, work collaboratively in a team, and understand their role in society. Children will struggle to achieve academic success in later years without these abilities (Brooks, 2019). At the age of four, the child begins to communicate with other children, which significantly influences the child’s future nature.
