Reflection on the Video “In the Classroom”
It is essential to use additional tools and informational resources during the modern teaching process at school. The video tells about Hoover School, where a second-grade teacher, Mary Daughetee, conducts a lesson to represent a specific phenomenon in real life through a video (Iowa PBS, 2022). Such an approach is crucial for primary grades, as it allows for delivering more information effectively. When planning the lesson, she tries to keep all the necessary assessed standards (Iowa PBS, 2022). She finds these standards and teaching materials on the website called “Iowa Science Phenomena” (Iowa PBS, 2022).
It is a good example of how a quality lesson should be prepared. During the class, Mary explains the natural physical processes using an interesting method of visualization and communication (Iowa PBS, 2022). Then she asks children questions about their thoughts and what captivates them (Iowa PBS, 2022). This process represents a complex activity that helps a teacher to interact actively with her students, gaining maximum results. Due to it, knowledge delivery is undertaken, and children’s interest rises.
Personal Application of the Presented Ideas
As a teacher, I would use Mary Daughetee’s teaching methodology. First, the mentioned website contains tasks that meet specific standards. It means that all the activities presented by these tasks are qualified. I would consider the practical activities this website contains, employing tools and ideas for my lesson, because it is helpful and does not consume my time.
Second, contemporary children are demanding and find it hard to be engaged, so I would use online-based media to interest them. It would be helpful as visualizing some concepts in real life helps to develop children’s logical thinking, asking-questions skills, and imagination, and increases their curiosity. This method has two key functions: fully involving pupils in the learning process and assisting them in understanding some complex physical processes.
Little children hardly perceive information delivered orally, so I would use video materials during my lessons. Another idea that would help me conduct efficient classes is asking questions to enhance children’s involvement and knowledge. Conclusively, keeping the standards and diversifying lessons is crucial for students’ successful learning.
