Value chain management is a crucial area in the business world. It is especially more significant in the field of processing whereby goods gain value as they move up the chain; right from the rank of raw materials to the position of finished goods. Is processing of goods the only area where value chain management can be applied? In everyday life there are numerous ways in which the concepts of value chain management can be put to use (Robbins & Coulter 2008, pp. 421-424). In this short essay, some of the ways in which value management concepts can be applied in everyday life will be examined.
To start with, the concept of refinement and quality improvement is very relevant in the polishing of ideas in our everyday lives so that at the end of the day what is implemented is the best. For example if someone comes up with the idea opening a school, the concept of value addition in chain processes will be applied in selecting the best place so that the school is able to be of more value to its users. In this way, the element of value addition has helped improve the quality of the idea. Thus the value chain management can aid in the refinement of ideas.
Secondly, the concepts of value chain management can be very helpful in the improvement of life. How does the improvement of life happen? Through the understanding of how each stage is used to improve the quality of the product that is being processed, it is possible that the individual will be able to examine his or her life and see areas where improvement is needed. The appropriate actions will then be taken at various levels so as to change for the better. This is a sure way of changing one’s life for the better.
Besides the above, the concepts of value chain management can be used in guiding others on performance improvement (Martin 1995, pp. 47-50). The exposure to the ideas that are part of the subject of value chain management is a good way of understanding what is supposed to be done in particular situations so as to realize better results. This makes it easy for the person with the value chain management concepts to give direction to people who are in need of ideas on how to improve their performance in certain areas.
Leaving the above aside, life is about choices, and the concepts of value chain management can be applied in making the best choices in life. With knowledge on what happens after a product has been given a facelift through value addition, it becomes easy to identify a choice that is valuable in life and therefore take it. It also becomes easy to identify and avoid mediocre choices. It is therefore justifiable to say that the concepts of value chain management can be used in everyday life in making credible choices.
In conclusion, it is evident that the concepts of value chain management can be applied in everyday lives besides their practical application in processing factories where products are given more value at each stage in the chain of production. These everyday applications include the improvement of ideas, the enhancement of life, guiding others on how to improve their performance, and making valuable choices. Thus value chain management concepts are highly applicable in everyday life.
