Executive summary
Websites are becoming very important tools that are essential for business operations. The design of any website will require that certain procedures are followed. There are design principles that should be there. This paper will look at the features of the Roaming Technologies company, located in Australia. It will look at the improvements that are required to attract more traffic. Several issues should be considered when designing the website. The design takes many issues that should be considered in advance. The website for Roaming Technologies has many features that should be added to it to attract more traffic. Most of the sales that are made by the company are from offline advertising. They have not seen any significant changes from the Internet through the use of the website to advertise.
Introduction
It is good when the website chosen is linked and connected to search engines, scientist have shown that approximately 95% of Internet users use search engines. The site should appear always on the first page of the search engine. The search engine is in a position to navigate most of the content from the website (Baltes 2004, 453).
The process of designing a website will normally depend on the many things that are being designed. Also it is a process of giving form to an idea which could be a plan or description of a thing. A good design should include the use of good colors, images and flash browsers that are consistent to navigate and the external links are available and in a position to load.
During the past years the level of e-tourism development has varied between regions and continents. There are no websites that display faster search engines on the page to make selections without returning to the homepage. Major opportunities and challenges have emerged and need to be addressed by all industry players. Websites that are designed well will normally attract more traffic. The text used should be easy to understand and presented in a very detailed manner. The text used should be easy to understand and presented in a very detailed manner.
Website analysis
One of the issues that one meets when they visit the website www.roamingtech.com.au is the fact that the homepage is loaded with a lot of graphics. It has a graphic of all the graphics that are sold by the Rugged Computer dealers. Their prices are shown and how the contact people can be reached (Alkhafaji 2003, 23). Though use of graphics is not a bad idea, their excessive use is of paramount importance to the website. They should be used in moderation so that the website loads fast. Another thing to note about the website is the fact that the graphics that are loaded describe repetitive products. An example is that there are graphics of laptop computers that are displayed on the homepage. The laptop computers could be better placed on the site by creating a rolling or sliding graphics in Flash so that all the varieties of laptops are displayed here. The laptops could be organized this way so that space is created for the other products to be displayed (Young 1999, 87).
Another issue that is notable here is the fact that there are too many links on the website. The links, like the graphics, should be in moderation. Some of the links should be static so that they give a description of the website (Cravens 2000, 65-76). Some links should be used as content of the website. All the text is almost clickable on the website which is not that recommendable. The links in the website are working thus is one of the strong points of any website. A navigation system should allow for easy and intuitive navigation between the different sections of any website. A good navigation system is a thumbs-up for any website. The website should provide a clue of where the user is within the website. Web designers should not be left to fumble on where they are within the website (Castells 2003, 243). A good website will have pseudo-code which will guide the user on where to go from where they are within the website. It is good to let the user be aware of the page they are viewing. The page currently viewed can be given different coloring to differentiate from the other pages. Unlike years ago where it was hard in showing the user where they are within the website, these days some technologies make the development of navigation easy. There are technologies like the use of breadcrumbs that give the user a visual representation of where they are (Smith, & Seifert 2003, 43).
Another issue to note is the fact that there are no sponsored adverts on the homepage. This is a turn-off for any website. Sponsored adverts are a nuisance to any visitor. There are some which keep on popping up; this is a total turn-off to the visitor. They should be minimized.
Suggestions
One of the suggestions that I would make is that the website should be optimized so that it appears in the popular search engines like Google and Yahoo. This will make it to be found in many directories. Search optimization is a new field that is growing very fast in the world of marketing and the leading companies have learned to use this to their advantage. The web administrator of the technology website should make sure that they appear top in every search engine. This will sell their web presence to many people (Daft 2000, 76).
Another thing that should be done is to make sure that there are services that are offered by this company to the visitors which are unique. Given that it is a technology website, it could offer to look for drivers for a certain brand of electronic device and allow someone looking for them to download from their website. This will be a great boost to this website especially now because many people are buying computers but don’t know where to get the drivers. Another thing that could be done by the company is to offer training and tutorials on the use of certain electronic devices on their website. They could offer diagnostic assistance to the many problems that are found on the websites (Brian 1997, 23). Repair and maintenance of computer devices are on the rise because many people have bought commuters but they are not aware of what they can do to solve some simple issues that come up in the course of their use. Another issue suggestion for rugged computer websites is to offer chat services that will help customers online in case they have problems when using products they bought from them. The chat service could be located somewhere at the periphery of the homepage.
The links should be reduced and these links could either be used to have traded links or have informative information occupying this space. There are various ways in which the space could be used. The graphics which are similar should be in one space but with a flash effect so that they scroll as they move.
Another thing that should be done is to trade links with other technology companies. There are no links that are found on the website (Alkhafaji 2003, 23). This is a bad idea and a bad notion for the company because they are not being marketed by others. There should be other links from other companies doing the same business of selling technology products. This will mean that the people who are visiting the other websites will most likely visit our website too. Trading of links is another sure way of advertising the company.
The last thing that could be done to make the website known is to involve it in pay per click. This is where an advert is placed on other websites. The webmaster should look at the ways in which the adverts could be placed and in which sites. There are many popular sites which are good for this by now. One of them is Facebook and Twitter.
Conclusion
In conclusion, there are many ways in which the website can be made to sell. The website administrators should look for ways in which they can effectively do this. Web presence is something that cannot be run from of late. It is becoming a function of marketing. It is to be noted that the Internet is here to stay with us (Schumann, & Thorson 2007, 56). There are many to be seen with Internet advertising. With the suggestions that have been made above, the website will increase traffic.
