Introduction
The United States is one of the developed countries in the world with advanced infrastructure, effective education system, lucrative business sectors, a mature democracy, and superb human rights. As a developed country, the United States attracts people from diverse countries and backgrounds, who want to experience and enjoy numerous opportunities to improve their lives. According to my personal experience, the United States has the best infrastructure, transforming education and robust culture that is very liberal and enriching. After I was born in the United States, we relocated to Taiwan, but I later came back to the US at the age of 16. My parents did send me back to the United States, for they believe that the country has numerous opportunities, essential freedom, and good education as opposed to other countries. Therefore, this paper explains why people leave their native countries and migrate to the United States.
Religion and World View
The people of the United States are very liberal and do not have any attachments or strong ties to the provisions of any religious affiliation. Instead, the residents of the US have the freedom to engage in a religion of their choice without undue coercion that is common in some countries. The freedom of worship and relaxed ties with any religious affiliation is different from other countries in the world where the state encourages its citizens to practice a certain religion and abide by its provisions. Trigg states that “the first amendment of the United States constitution, in the bill of rights makes the ‘free exercise of religion’ its priority along with the prohibition of the federal establishment of religion” (2). Therefore, the freedom of worship entitled to the citizens of the United States is a precious and unique attribute that makes the country very different from other countries worldwide.
The United States believes that every individual has the right to choose and worship any religion without fear of discrimination or intimidation from the state or society. The law of the United States protects individuals from any forms of discrimination that some of the citizens may exercise on others. “Freedom of worship or belief is protected by numerous international instruments” (Uitz, 10). To effectively control and manage the challenge of discrimination based on religion, the government of the United States has enacted policies and laws that oversee the freedom of worship and impose relevant disciplinary actions on the individuals, who engage in religious discrimination. Therefore, the importance of freedom of worship that is available in the United States is a factor that motivates many individuals to travel to the United States.
Family and Kinship
The United States is a country that has very high levels of independence in terms of family and kinship relationships. Many people in the United States exercise independence and lead individual lives, which are free from interferences from other members of the extended family. As a result, the culture of independence practiced by the citizens of the United States in the aspect of family and the kinship facilitates the growth of an individual, since a person does not have to bear the burden of members of the extended family. Moreover, many families in the United States can access the latest information from social media that they can use to enhance their daily interactions with members of the society. Schurgin and Clarke-Pearson argue that “social sites such as Facebook and MySpace offer multiple daily opportunities for connecting with friends, classmates, and people with shared interests “(1). Thus, the culture of the United States is very instrumental in the growth and advancement of an individual and the subject family, as it recognizes the nuclear family more than the extended family.
Many families in the United States are nuclear as opposed to other countries in the world where polygamy is prevalent. Furthermore, the state ensures that the family members access the required basic amenities that they can use to enhance their personal lives and improve their livelihoods. The nuclear setup of many families in the United States makes them achieve their success and development goals with ease because of their sizes. Fomby and Cherlin explain that “the instability of family structure has become an increasingly salient part of children’s lives in the United States over the past half-century” (192). Therefore, the state encourages the old members of the family to act as role models, so that they can be in a good position of providing better services to their families and meet their daily requirements. As a result, many families in the United States are among the most dynamic families in the world. The dynamic nature and easy access to development opportunities for families create a form of motivation in the minds of many individuals, thus initiating the need to travel to the United States.
Gender, Education, and Employment
In the United States, cases of gender discrimination are very low, and therefore, boys and girls receive equal treatment from society. Since the United States is a liberal country, residents enjoy the freedom of association without gender barriers. Therefore, individuals in the United States treat men and women in an equal manner with none of them receiving different treatment from the other. Equal treatment of men and women makes the United States a unique country, unlike other countries that condone gender discrimination.
Gender discrimination in the United States is an issue that permeates education and employment domains. While gender discrimination is still dominant in other countries across the world, it is no longer present in the United States. Equal access to employment and education in the United States makes the country appealing to several individuals from other parts of the world. Presently, a large number of people living in the United States can access good education, employment, and ownership of properties regardless of their gender orientation. Employers no longer prefer individuals of a certain gender, but focus on all individuals basing on their performance in the workplace. The implication of equal treatment in the workplace means that both women and men are now able to get promotions and receive similar wages and salaries as opposed to medieval times. Additionally, schools hire trainers from both genders and treat students with similar respect irrespective of their gender; hence, students of both genders receive a good education and excel in their studies.
Marriage and Dating
The United States of America is a free and liberal nation, which does not restrict interaction and dating amongst its citizens. In contrast, most conservative nations have cultural norms and beliefs that dictate dating and marriage amongst the youth. The United States is a country that exercises free dating and marriage amongst its citizens. The availability of media and good education has facilitated healthy and modern dating practices. According to Fox, the fact that women have a right to make choices is a very different thing in the dating game (par. 10). Therefore, a number of citizens in the United States approach issues relating to dating and marriage from a more enlightened perspective as opposed to many countries that are still conservative societies. The laws of the United States give its citizens the freedom to date and marry out of their partners so long as they have mutual consent. The freedom of dating and marriage that is present in the United States builds some form of stimulus in the minds of individuals globally, and thus motivates them to travel to the country.
The policies of the United States permit marriages of different kinds among its individuals. Besides, the government of the United States believes that it is not good to prevent its citizens from dating and marrying people of their choice. Therefore, same-sex marriages are prevalent in the United States alongside heterosexual marriages. The main aim of the freedom to date and marry someone of your choice has its basis on human rights laws that the government upholds. Additionally, the government of the United States values and respects the rights of every individual living in the country. The freedom accorded to the citizens of the United States is unique and different since it gives the residents the ultimate power to date and marries an individual of their choice (Scribner, par. 3). The laws of the United States also cushion its individuals from any kinds of interference from the state or society.
Conclusion
The United States is a developed country, which provides the best opportunities for its citizens to exploit. The citizens of the United States have easy access to many basic amenities and resources. Access to social media like Facebook and MySpace has helped many individuals in the United States voice their suggestions easily to the relevant authorities in the country. Family, religion and kinship, gender, education, and employment, as well as marriage and dating in the United States, are unique and different from the rest of the world. Hence, the freedom provided by the country to its citizen motivates many individuals from other countries to travel and stay in the United States.
