Introduction

In the fast-paced world of work, employees are expected to be efficient, productive, and available around the clock. As an NP for CHE Behavioral Health Services, I have experienced the pressures of meeting work demands while trying to maintain a work-life balance. In this essay, the efficiency of employees from an administrative design standpoint will be explored, the trends in work responsibilities within my organization will be discussed, and the struggles with work-life balance for employees will be analyzed. Additionally, there will be ways in which employers can improve work-life balance for employees, as suggested.

Trend of Work Responsibilities in the Organization

My work responsibilities involve assessing and evaluating patients’ mental health, adjusting medications, charting visit notes, educating patients and staff on mental health conditions, nonpharmacological interventions, and pharmacological interventions. The nature of my job requires me to work with patients with complex mental health issues, and this means I have to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. This can be challenging, but also an opportunity to learn and grow in my profession.

Impact of Technology on Efficiency and Work-Life Balance

Technology has facilitated efficiencies in the workplace, particularly in note-taking and record-keeping. The availability of note-taking systems on any device and continuous updates to these systems have made it easier for me to manage my time and stay organized. However, technology has also contributed to the challenges of work-life balance. The expectation of being available on mobile devices has blurred the line between work and personal life, which can negatively influence employees’ mental health and well-being.

Organizational Design Changes That Support Employee Efficiency

From an executive design stance, constantly updating the Behavioral Health Note System has helped employees be more efficient. This has reduced the time spent on administrative tasks, enabling employees to focus on delivering high-quality care to patients (Prentice et al., 2020). Additionally, the organization has implemented training programs that enable employees to develop their skills and knowledge in specific areas. This has helped employees to be more efficient and productive in their roles.

If I were to calculate my time working, whether in the workplace or at home on a portable device, the movement over the past few years would indicate that I work at least 6 hours daily, with some weekend work. This aligns with the organizational values of providing quality care to patients and meeting their needs (Prentice et al., 2020). However, it is essential to note that excessive work hours can hurt employees’ health, well-being, and productivity.

Challenges to Work-Life Balance and Opportunities for Improvement

The struggle with achieving work-life balance is a common issue for employees in numerous organizations. This can be exemplified in various ways, such as increased anxiety levels, burnout, and decreased job pride. To improve work-life balance for employers and employees, employers should prioritize employee well-being and offer flexible working arrangements. This could contain distant work prospects, flexible working hours, and a term off for individual reasons.

Leadership Strategies for Promoting a Healthy Work-Life Balance

As a hypothetical leader of my organization, I would ensure a healthy work-life balance by implementing policies prioritizing employee well-being. This could include flexible working arrangements, such as remote work options, adaptable working hours, and time off for personal reasons. Additionally, I would encourage employees to take breaks and prioritize self-care. This could involve implementing wellness programs and providing resources for mental health support.

Conclusion

In conclusion, employee efficiency is a crucial aspect of organizational design. In my organization, employees are expected to handle several tasks simultaneously, making work responsibilities quite demanding. Technology has improved workplace efficiency while also creating new challenges in maintaining a healthy work-life balance. To help employees be more efficient, my organization has implemented training programs and a constantly updated note system. The struggle with work-life balance is a common problem for employees, and employers can improve this by prioritizing worker satisfaction and suggesting flexible working arrangements. As a leader, I prioritize employee well-being and implement policies promoting work-life balance.
