Every organization has certain aspects which make it a different workplace than the others, if the internal setting of an organization is crafted in a diligent manner then this serves as a competitive advantage as well because then the firm functions in a smooth manner, and hence it becomes relatively easier to attain the organizational objectives. The harmony and the coordination amongst the departments is one thing which really affects the performance of the organization; each department has to understand the issues faced by others, this makes the whole work environment an ideal one. If one delves the organizational structure and organizational culture of the leading firms then he can easily comprehend that both these factors do contribute to the final outcome in a positive manner; the role of the top management has to be a proficient one in this regard as it is primarily its responsibility to build the structure and culture of the company. The organization in which I am working also has a distinctive set of organizational traits.
The flow of information within my organization is pretty smooth as the interdepartmental relationship is exemplary, the head of the departments hold meetings on fortnightly basis to discuss the issues faced by each other in detail, these meeting help in understanding the problems from the view point of other departments, and then the managers devise coordinated strategies accordingly, the united efforts made in this regard have been phenomenal and this is one aspect which has increased the performance of the organization as a whole. As mentioned above that the interdepartmental harmony is present in my organization so there is no alienate between the employees as well, hence the information flows smoothly throughout the whole chain. The top management also has an open-door policy so the employees do not feel any problem in discussing the matters directly to the ones who are concerned and who have the authority (Martin, 1998, p.125). The managers of different departments also hold meeting within them in order to chalk out the daily plans and hence small disputes get settled at the initial stages; in sum, the vertical and horizontal relationships in my organization are immaculate therefore the flow of communication is pretty smooth. The management is fair to the employees and hence there is no hostility between the management and the employees this is also one of the major reasons of the smooth flow of communication within the organization.
Organizational diversity is one thing that is highly valued these days and firms are regarding this as a source of competitive advantage in the present age of globalization (Golembiewski, 1995, p.15). The organization in which I am working at present is quite diversified and the people belonging to various nationalities are working in complete harmony, the credit of this goes to the management as it has managed diversity in such a diligent manner that people belonging to all the comminutes and sex perceive the management to be fair and just; this is one thing which has helped the organizational growth in the past few years. Slight issues that come up regarding minorities are tackled directly by the top management in order to make sure that all the segments of the workforce function in complete harmony. The viewpoints of the minorities are considered with full respect and hence no ethnic or religious issues really emerge on the scene.
Organizational policies are pretty rigid but at the same time are human friendly, which to me is a good thing as this maintains the sanctity of the workplace and so the employees keep working in a disciplined manner. The code of conduct in my organization is quite strict and the performance of the employees is closely monitored by the managers and constant feedback is also provided to the workers so that they can improve. On the other side, the facilities provided to the employees and their families are excellent and this is one major reason which helps in decreasing the employee turnover rate of the firm; policies that result in employee retention are being implemented by the top management. The retirement or the old-age benefits are attractive even then there is a wide room for improvement in this respect. The health care facilities are quite up to the standards and the employees are a given handsome amount in this regard. Annual holidays are allocated to each employee so that they can spend time with their families. Employees are provided loans on very low interest rates by the organization, this helps the workers a lot in raising the standard of their living, and certainly, this is one thing which is being widely appreciated by the workers. The labor unions are not suppressed by the management; the labor representatives are taken into full confidence before taking major decisions and their say is respected too by the authorities (Martin, 1998, p.107). As mentioned before too that open-door policy is being implemented so the employees feel comfortable in discussing the issues with the managers. The policies are hence designed in such a manner that boosts the performance of the firm and ensures that along with the organization, employees to grow.
