I developed an understanding of the value of written communication in any industry where lives are at risk. The interviews with Mrs. S and Mrs. V had one thing in common. Both professionals struggled with the change from textual communication to computer-based applications. One of the two was a talented writer, whilst the other needed to develop their writing skills. This is crucial, since written communication can have a significant impact, particularly if others examine the notes.

The statement made by Mrs. S that her notes were utilized in court to have a learner removed from a dangerous home situation startled me the most. It surprised me since, although I was aware that written correspondence might be inspected pursuant to a subpoena, I had never given any attention to how the notes would affect a person’s life.
