Being an inventive personal expression, poetry does a number of things. It is important to note that poets write poetry to address different issues in society ranging from love, governance, religion, and education among other pertinent issues. Therefore, poetry will accomplish a given task, depending on what the poet had in mind. Some are reactive, argumentative, or responsive depending on the poet. However, despite the diverse issues addressed in poetry, it does the following in common; it focuses on the world and its inhabitants encouraging readers to pay attention as well. Poetry is full of praising and celebrating life.
Some people live in this world downtrodden; nevertheless, the only thing they may be lacking is to get into poetry to appreciate and celebrate life. Poetry entertains; it dabbles with words creating rhythm and flow that carries people away as they listen or read. Human beings are different; no one is a replica of the other, and poetry brings out this uniqueness by allowing writers to express their different views about life and other issues. Finally, poetry encourages and challenges readers to think critically about certain issues that rock human lives. Poetry lovers will boldly confess that poetry is life and life would be void and meaningless without it.
