It is often difficult for a family to make a final decision on the desired vacation destination. The multitude of factors presented on every travel agency website can confuse even a seasoned traveler, not to mention an average American family. For this essay, I chose two locations within the country’s borders: the Woodloch family resort and Redwood National and State Parks (RNSP). The differences between these two family vacation destinations bring up a discussion regarding the range of activities available at each of the resorts. This essay aims to assess which one of the two locations presents a better choice for a family who seeks a diverse assortment of engaging activities for all ages and has the potential for a revisit.
To determine the location that would cater to the broadest range of interests, both sites will be reviewed based on the information presented on their websites. RNSP is a collection of federal resorts and park systems organized under a single title. There are nine chambers of commerce that help with accommodation options within the area (“The official 2021 visitor guide of Redwood National and State Parks”). Moreover, RNSP has well-developed campgrounds and cabins available for rent (“The official 2021 visitor guide of Redwood National and State Parks”). The primary activities for visitors are nature walks, campfire programs, kayaking, horseback riding, and bicycling. RNSP provides a bonus discount for visitors who possess America the Beautiful Pass, which extends to a multitude of federal parks and recreational lands (“The official 2021 visitor guide of Redwood National and State Parks”). The exciting biodiversity of this location creates a vast number of scenic routes that will keep visitors engaged for a long time.
In turn, Woodloch appears to be a more luxurious resort that focuses on social engagement and relaxation. Woodloch presents an excellent opportunity for a family to engage in a vast variety of indoor and outdoor activities, ranging from golf and kayaking to a relaxing day of spa and massage (“Woodloch 101”). The resort is ready to cater to every need of its customers and includes a number of accessibility options. The resort regularly hosts events and competitions for all age categories, all of which are described in an activity sheet provided for every guest at arrival (“Woodloch 101”). In an example activity sheet, there are over 15 amenities and entertainment activities occurring throughout the day (“Woodloch 101”). Most of the entertainment amenities are already included in the plan packages, with some of them are being available seasonally, which increases the incentive for a second visit (“Woodloch 101”). Woodloch has the potential to become a recurring place for a family to visit, as it encourages multiple visits due to a continually changing and expanding variety of activities and holiday themes (“Woodloch 101”). Despite being more expensive than RNSP, Woodloch includes on- and off-property housing options included in its packages.
In conclusion, while both resorts provide a wide variety of activities, Redwood National and State Parks are focused on scenic routes and nature trips. In turn, Woodloch is more suitable for a family who seeks both relaxation and engagement from their journey. Therefore, when comparing these vacation destinations for their assortment of services, the Woodloch is preferable. Despite this conclusion, Redwood Parks presents a unique opportunity to learn more about nature and can be an engaging location for a family that plans for a more nature-oriented trip.
