Currently, most healthcare units have collaborated with nursing schools to facilitate the learning program of nurse students to enhance their work experience. The approach aims to ensure the learners have an on-the-job experience that is necessary to improve their working skills. The managements come to an agreement by highlighting their respective expectations from each party during the formation of the partnership. The base idea behind the combined task force is to produce healthcare professionals with adequate and relevant competencies that can enhance the quality of healthcare outcomes and improve the safety of patients. The use and implementation of the Academic-Partnership Tool Kit have proven vital in ensuring the collaboration is effectively evaluated for better results.
Academic-Practice Partnership
Generally, the approach promotes the development of a mutual relationship between the healthcare units and the nurse student. From the time I joined the partnership with Central Carolina Community College in Sanford, I have been experiencing excellent working exposure within the organization. I have received the necessary support from the administration and colleagues, which is significant in promoting my learning. The working condition is friendly, and most of the supervisors are willing to share their precious skills and knowledge with me. The interaction with professional healthcare workers has improved my self-confidence, competencies, and relevant abilities required, such as effective communication and keen listening useful when performing critical operations.
When partners want to implement trust and mutual respect in the partnership, I would suggest they use the following methods: appreciation and recognition for work done and transparency in all aspects of the operation. In addition, it should apply joint responsibility and accountability where the students and nurses work together. Another method should be a delegation of duties to nursing students. Similarly, student and nurse leaders should be involved in finding the solution when there is an issue. Lastly, the interaction rate between the partners should remain constant to facilitate proper understanding and the development of good rapport.
In Central Carolina Community College, there are various practices that show the alignment of the organization with the AACN-AONE guidelines. For instance, in the case of the current update, nurse leaders ensure all the workers are updated on the current issue to enhance their service delivery.
