This semester has been so helpful to me in the sense that has provided several opportunities, as far as academic writing is concerned. For instance, the course requirements demand a research paper on immigration, reading a book titled rain of gold, analyzing the author’s views in the book, and writing an argumentative paper on gay marriage.

Through this experience, I have noted that academic writing is linear meaning it should have a central point or the major theme. I have familiarized myself with the use of online articles, especially the resource visit tutor, which is so resourceful.

In the semester, I have learned that academic writing differs significantly from other types of writing in the sense that a strict structure has to be followed, especially when it comes to sentence formatting. Writing is a challenging profession that calls on the writer to plan adequately to deliver the assignment in time. The experience gained through academic writing throughout the semester proves that written language is so complex as opposed to spoken language because it has longer words.

The vocabulary used is improved in the sense that it tends to use noun-based phrases as opposed to verb-based clauses. Again, when expressing any word, precision is important, as this would make the entire text objective as opposed to personal. In this case, the use of first-person pronoun is highly discouraged since this would make the text personal and unprofessional.

The writer aspires to relate various parts of the text with an attempt of making the entire work explicit and the use of signaling words is highly encouraged. In spoken language or unprofessional writing, the use of vocabularies is never selective, but the case is different in academic writing since vocabularies are employed accurately, with some words having specific meanings.

Again, the writer is often encouraged to define the terms used in the text since the reader might have difficulties interpreting them. Finally, the author of any text is always expected to offer evidence and justify the position or claim in the text instead of giving false information that can never be substantiated.

Apart from having various features, academic writing should follow specific principles that guide individuals in producing the best text. First, brevity in the most valued tenet because the writer should never waste the reader’s time by giving false data. If a reader is to be interested in going through the text, the words should be clearer in the sense that any form of ambiguity is avoided.

In this case, the aim should be to serve people instead of trying to impress them with empty words. Therefore, the written text is to inform and influence the views of others, as well as their opinions meaning any principle of communication has to be employed.

After gaining adequate experience and knowledge, I intend to enroll in a four-year degree program that will further strengthen my skills. The course is of great benefit as far as academic writing is concerned. It is concluded further that academic writing is not an easy task since it calls on the author to be focused fully on informing and educating the reader instead of engaging in activities that would simply impress people. For this to be achieved, all features of writing should be embraced, as well as the common principle.
