New officers need to prepare for a career in law enforcement policies. The cadets need to know all the basic facts about the training procedure for their future career. Police recruitment training academy mainly takes place obliquely in multiple learning activities which must begin in a classroom. Majority of people believe that such training is both advanced and harmonious.

The training takes place within a period of six to eight months, they get the necessary theoretical lessons that pertain their career choice. After the class training, the cadets join another part of the course. The conversion from one stage to the next involves abandoning the experience and identification to become a well informed officer (Klockars, 2006).

For that reason, it is mandatory in every academy for someone who wants to be a police officer to achieve the absolute necessities for the career. The academy allows field training that also involves the use of literature to gain the necessary skills. The individual knowledge gained will be very important in ensuring the transmission of knowledge from one generation to the next. The training helps the officers to know arrest and ordering procedures, preliminary techniques which are important in investigation, how to use radios for communication, report writing skills, traffic enforcement policies and investigation techniques (Klockars, 2006).

Driving

The police officers are required to learn more about driving, for example, Emergency Vehicle Operation Course which discusses the policy of pursuit and safe handling of the vehicle. They are required to know how to carry out supervision where an event of crash has occurred by filing the necessary report which must be done by the pursuing officer for example, when pursuing criminals. Under driving program, they are also taught the laws that allow the police to carry out a patrol car to start a pursuit (Klockars, 2006).

Transport Act and Crimes Act allow the police in uniform or those vehicles which have the flashing lights and sirens to stop a particular vehicle for investigation on a given crime committed. This can only be done under reasonable grounds. Unlawful pursuit is not allowed. They are taught on what should be done when placing roadblocks, why it is being done, and the use of traffic lights and so on (Klockars, 2006).

Field training

The learning environment in the field is different from what is taught in classroom. Training programs do occur in distinct phases. Many field training officers carry out evacuation processes. The training officer starts working under the field training officer. Filed training also involves enculturation process; the new officers learn values and different norms that regulate various departments from the trained veteran officers.

Field training acts like a bridge between the theoretical emphasis of the police academy and the application of practical activities being done in the field. It goes around the discussions that actively relate learning matters from one step to the next. Learning academies provide the foundation and therefore they cannot be eliminated in training force for the sake of police officers to be.

Academies programs should be aligned with practical activities in the field to ensure the effectiveness of the programs in a particular department. In short, the field training is very important in ensuring the success of the military force (Nepon, 2008).

Police Training Officer Program (PTO)

The police training program upgrades the standards of work among the police officers. It incorporates fashionable methods in the education of adults and problem based learning techniques that are meant for the police force. This program gives confidence in critical thinking related skills which enable the officers to have consistent problem solving skills in a particular society. The PTO program encourages problem solving as a method of field training as opposed to individual tasks (Nepon, 2008).

Firearms training

Firearms training includes the weapons used, how to take care of them, marksmanship and other technical manipulation of the guns. Restrictions are always put forth in ensuring that before a police candidate uses a gun he should get trained in a police academy to obtain the necessary skills recommended (Nepon, 2008).

Police self-defense

This can be the most difficult part of the curriculum in life of a police candidate. The police officers do get threat both from the criminals and other civilians around. Sometimes they are forced to defend their lives using their weapons in the hand. In such situations they are forced to undertake the following; they should repel the attack, disarm attacker, subdue the attacker and finally take him to court to confirm the offence done and if the attacker is proved guilty, he should face the appropriate punishment depending on the orders from the court (Nepon, 2008).

Cultural training programs

Police officers should get enough skills to work successfully in cross cultures. Cross cultural relocation ensures that the police officers get adapted to various programs and environments to help them cope up with the necessary skills that pertain their career choice (Kappeler, 2006).

Police civil liability

Police officers are expected to hold high standards of good ethics and behavior in a society. They should not take laws into their own hands because they are stewards of the public trust. They should deal with the public lawfully by complying with the professional codes of conduct and at the same time they should be subject to the rules, laws and regulations (Kappeler, 2006).
