Electronic Medical Records
With the rapid technological advancement that the world is currently facing, a lot of operations in many organization are now becoming computerised. This is essential as it increases the effectiveness and efficiency of operations within an organization. The health sector has also not been left behind. The organization and management of many health institutions have also embraced the use of technology in their operation. For instance, in our health care facility, the use of electronic medical records (EMR) has just been implemented. This advancement is essential as it will ensure effective and efficient system of data storage, retrieval and modification.
However, to ensure that the operation of this system is effective, a lot of considerations have to be put in place. First, all the employees need to be familiar with the operation of the system. To achieve this, extensive education has to be passed to the specific employees who use hospital data. This includes nurses, receptionists, surgeons, doctors and other managerial staff. To ensure that proper information is decimated to these individuals, seminars and clinics should be held. Furthermore, the employees should engage in the practical use of the system every working day for an hour after the end of their shifts. This will ensure that they are familiar with the way the systems works. In addition, they will also have a chance to apply the knowledge and skills that they have learned (Johns & Freshwater, 2006).
Another factor that needs to be considered is the restriction of using the system. Only authorised personnel should be allowed to use the system. This will ensure that it operates and runs smoothly. Unnecessary use may lead to system failure and this will impact negatively on the operations of the hospital. The use of the system will also ensure the maintenance of the confidentiality of the information that is found in the system. Such employees should adhere to the code of conduct and ethics. This is because the system contains vital information of the hospital and its clients (Johns & Freshwater, 2006).
Infection Control Programme
Infection control programmes are plans that contain a set of actions, objectives, rules and guidelines that should be achieved to prevent the spread and infection of diseases. Many countries in the world have their health programmes that assist to control the spread and infection of various diseases within their areas of jurisdiction. The main aim of these plans is to protect the entire population from being infected by specific diseases. As a result, these individuals will live a healthy life free from the threat of illness.
Therefore, to ensure an effective implementation of an infection control programme, the health personnel who are to implement it should undergo a thorough training. This will ensure that they are familiar with the aims, goals and objectives of the programme and the means to achieve them. The training will also give them background information on the issue at hand. It will also give them the relevant knowledge and skills that will be required to successfully implement what they have learned. The target group, which, most of the time comprises of the members of the public should also be educated on the issue at hand. This will increase their level of awareness. This will in turn increase their level of active participation and implementation of the programme. It should be noted that a programme cannot be successful without getting the support of the local community (Mildon & Underwood, 2010).
