Afghanistan: Image from an Era of Peace
The Afghan image presentation event was held on Sunday 30th September in the Wigand gallery. The event was organized to help the students understand the way of life of the Afghan people and other foreign cultures. The vivid language accompanied by the pictures that the guests used enlightened us a lot about the cultures. The comparisons used were also well thought and helped illustrate the points. I gained a lot of knowledge of different world cultures.
Through the event, I was able to identify the changes that I would be expected to make when I moved to the context of a new culture (“Community Hallmark” n.d). For example, I learned that ladies were not expected to wear short dresses in the Middle East. I also learned that I could pursue a degree in foreign countries that had campuses affiliated with my university. It is also possible to get internships and scholarships. This was vital because it was the main aim the university had organized for the event.
At the end of the event, I learned that I previously had a lot of misconceptions about the Arab world. From the guest, who was an American photographer who lived in Afghanistan for many years, I learned that the Afghan people are friendly as opposed to my earlier beliefs that they were bad people. Lastly, I realized that I had a strong passion to travel to the Arabian world to further my studies after all.
Student Activities Fair
This year’s exhibition was at the front of the university library on 20th September. The event was organized to help the students enhance and develop their thinking skills. Students should have an interest in learning from others without forgetting their culture and roots. Their past should be the benchmark for the future. This is clearly what the students gained from the exhibition.
The organization of the event was great. The order in which the exhibits were done was particularly impressive. This showed that proper planning and implementation of our strategies was requisite for success. The willingness of the audience was equally great. The food prepared was good and we enjoyed it generally. The purpose of the event was to give us fun while learning hence the mission was achieved.
The clubs offered a lot of information through the talk of the artists and their general appearance (How to Organize Public Talk, n.d). I got some inspiration from the artists and took it for my practice. The dressing code of the egomaniacs club was one of the inspirations. After carefully looking at their dresses I decided that I would look into ways that I would design even better dresses than the ones they showcased. Through the hard work of the chairman of the club, it was able to rise again. This taught me that hard work and commitment is important for success.
