In vertical modernity, the author’s discussion is based on ethnic and racial disparities amongst human beings. The concept of social stratification in the present world seems to act vertically, reflecting the ability to transverse. However, horizontal modernity is presented to offer a chance to make new encounters and opportunities. Earlier travels such as Vasco da Gama show that movements across the world provided the abilities to promote economic development and onto-existence adventures (Clark and Szerszynski 50). Their discoveries and actions led to a changing situation in the world. Discoveries made, including minerals and trade, revolved around the world.

The situation of anthropological beings happens in accordance with certain networks of insensitive powers, which are involved with the skilled recognized and fantasy in outstanding means. Some concepts that are also evident in the chapter include earth-oriented practices, large-scale infrastructure, and large network technology. On the other hand, the act of generosity and hospitality is important (Clark and Szerszynski). Modernity, therefore, has played a role in rendering the uniform of other living things. The major calamities faced include huge Tremors, tsunamis, and earthquakes. Such a history explains that the world we live in now is new. The former chaotic world revolved around forming an organized and regenerating world. The authors have made an impression that revolution exposes human beings to an environment whose mute and exertions remain a misery. Human beings have been ascribed to possess great adaptation skills. Such skills have been the tool of survival through the earth’s mobilization.

Lastly, the chapter discusses the aspects of geological time and earthly convolution. The modern world has a unique and definitive settlement that has paused a concern that challenges both scientists and philosophers cannot address. Though studies on physics and metaphysics have been intensified to try to explain the mystery of the earth, little progress has been made (Clark and Szerszynski 52). However, the efforts to understand the world have been beneficial through economic growth, expansion of power relations, and networking.

Over time, the universe has experienced measurable verticality of social structuration. The concept of colonization is also elaborated as the ancient, powerful individual’s enslaved people to work in their mines. It is explained that colonization and slavery were not an offshoot of the western people. Divisions are presumed to be ungodly and affected differently by the climate and topography. The major issue that brought about human divisions and discrimination is the difference in race. The race formed the vertical and geologized difference making the black people be considered subhuman.
