Introduction
Discussing marriage questions is complicated due to several factors contributing to a healthy and strong bond between partners. These components include psychological and sociological variables that may drastically affect the relationship dynamic of the family. Therefore, utilizing sociological and psychological research is crucial for writing an adequately designed article. The articles by Cohen (2019) and by Kılıçarslan and Parmaksız (2023) powerfully illustrate the sociological and psychological sides of this question.
The Coming Divorce Decline
The article by Cohen (2019) researches the divorce rates and mechanisms in the USA. The author states that society is going through a significant change in how it perceives divorce. While the most common initiators of the process are still women, the total rate has continued to decrease over the last few years. The article draws connections between that phenomenon and the growing awareness of mental health and couple therapy, which may increase the longevity of the marriage.
The statistics also show that recent marriages are at a lower risk of future divorce, which can be analyzed in my research using age as a sorting variable. Thus, this work should help analyze the reasons that may lead to a divorce, which will be included as risk factors when reading the interviews with the sample. It will also present helpful insight into the link between marriage’s strength and cultural background, education statistics, and socioeconomic features in presented cases. As a result, using this article will contribute to my work in analyzing the risk factors and social factors that may affect the research results.
The Role of Communication in Phubbing and Marriage Satisfaction
The article by Kılıçarslan and Parmaksız (2023) describes a different side of marriage that is also relevant to the discussion. It presents data on how having well-developed communication skills affects the marriage strength and happiness of the couple. While the main focus is on the habit of phubbing, which is avoiding talking to your partner by using the phone, the article presents a lot of mechanisms that apply to a broader range of issues. It accents the importance of training communication skills and how having them will lead to forming a more stable relationship.
The authors also discuss the topic of non-verbal communication, which is not discussed well in other similar works. The psychological insight of Kılıçarslan and Parmaksız’s article will be beneficial for understanding the results of my work, especially the keywords that they choose to use for measuring the results. I may pay attention to similar terms in the interviews and diary entries from the sample. Thus, this research on couples’ communication and their effect on relationships is hugely relevant to my work and should be adequately used in data analysis.
Conclusion
In conclusion, both works should be used correctly in my research. Utilizing articles that describe different aspects of marriage’s psychological and sociological effects will help me understand the findings. As interviewing and journaling require a more personalized approach and possible coding of frequently used terms, Kılıçarslan and Parmaksız’s article may provide a set of keywords to determine the problems.
Cohen’s work may also suggest potential risk factors that should be analyzed if encountered in the data. Moreover, it will be used to specify the sample to determine other variables connected to longevity and strength of marriage. Therefore, while these articles do not encompass the whole specter of data I would like to use in the final research, their relevancy is high enough to utilize and add to if needed.
