Introduction
The concept of care is that each nurse is aware of her role in a practical approach to working with patients and is based on a high level of technology and the ability to approach patient care wisely. Care is not only a science but also an art of working with the patient as a person and not as a nosological unit or an object of manipulation techniques. This work reveals the following sections: definition of caring, expression of caring and conclusion. Caring is essential in the nursing profession because it helps with the healing process (Frisch & Rabinowitsch, 2019). Therefore, for a full understanding of the creative component of the caring concept, its artistic expression is necessary.
Definition of Caring
In my understanding, the idea of “care” is used to clearly indicate that the primary task of each nurse is to provide patients with a comfortable stay in a medical facility by providing the most comfortable and calm conditions. In addition to the concept of care, there is also the concept of nursing, which refers to a nurse’s knowledge of her duties and understanding of all ideas of working with patients. Caring also refers to those abilities that are given to a person from birth, but in nursing work they manifest themselves most vividly (Sebrant & Jong, 2020). The existing concepts of humanism and holism have become the basis for the creation of a special philosophy of nursing that defines patient care, which is called holistic care. This philosophy is based on the fact that nurses strive to help patients in accordance with the understanding of the spiritual, psychological, physical, and emotional needs of the patient.
The nurse is constantly close to patients and through understanding their needs, becomes an integral part of the connection between the patient and the surrounding world. Often, the nurse’s attitude to the patient, their relationship is an important aspect of recovery. In my opinion, this becomes possible only thanks to the state of trust and support that arises between the patient and the nurse as a result of applying the caring concept.
The work of a nurse is a process that involves coordinating certain actions with the patient, as well as the result by which the service is evaluated (Price, 2019). This statement means that the practical and communication part of the treatment process is entrusted to nursing. In my opinion, the work of a nurse is presented from two sides. On the one hand, the nurse is an autonomous professional in the health care procedure because she serves processes that the patient cannot commit to feeling independent. On the other hand, a nurse is a doctor’s helper, fulfilling his appointment.
Theoretical knowledge is not enough to complete the work of a nurse. It is also necessary to be aware of values and determine an attitude towards other people. Nursing consists in many processes, interactions that manifest their effectiveness when the five main models of cognition act simultaneously. Such models include empiricism, personal knowledge, liberating knowledge, ethics, and aesthetics (Chinn & Kramer, 2018, p. 2). During periods of illness, a person may be unable to meet these needs independently. Caring is necessary to help a person become independent as soon as possible, both physically and mentally.
Expression of Caring
Caring is not only a nursing concept but also an art of helping people, and the best way to understand art is another art. For this reason, I chose the poem as an artistic expression of caring. For me, poetry is the most effective way to convey my emotions to the reader. In my poem, I mentioned my experience communicating with nurses and conveyed what I felt. I described in rhyme how much I value caring and how important it is to such an important job as a nursing.
Conclusion
Nursing is not only a set of skills and knowledge; it requires self-knowledge, development of empathy, awareness of values, and compassion because it demands not only professionalism but also high moral qualities. All this is a process of human development, and it happens, among other things, thanks to art. In general, the concept of nursing care can be defined as patient care, which is based on a holistic approach and a nurse’s dedication to her work. Therefore, I consider artistic expression an essential component of caring and nursing as a whole.
