The emphasis on current data in a SWOT analysis is conditional upon the changing environment, which leads to the shifts in companies’ policies and, consequently, their efficiency. Thus, both external and internal circumstances are unstable, and they greatly depend on one another (Shewan, 2021). In this way, the success of businesses is determined by their ability to apply a flexible approach. It is possible only if the data are relevant, and the failure to gather them might indicate inaccurate predictions for the future.
In a fictitious firm, the identification of SWOT factors is performed with regard to the specified areas. Hence, the internal environment incorporates the strengths and weaknesses of an organization, which are assessed in the first place (Shewan, 2021). In other words, the most effective initiatives and available resources are complemented by the drawbacks and limitations concerning further development. The combination of these two extremes demonstrates a company’s position, and it is accompanied by threats and opportunities (Shewan, 2021). They are shown by the evaluation of the market and the consequent application of the results to the mentioned internal factors.
The SWOT factors described above can be viewed as either specific to the firm or generic. The former category includes strengths and weaknesses as they are attributed solely to the business and are not connected to the marketplace itself (Shewan, 2021). From this perspective, starting the analysis by reviewing these conditions is necessary for further definition of an organization’s efficiency as a whole. In turn, the latter incorporates opportunities and threats or environmental factors, which can be generic due to their belonging to the setting rather than an entity (Shewan, 2021). Thus, the overall analysis combines the initial determination of a firm’s characteristics, followed by their comparison with outside conditions.
