The most interesting part of the chapter read was the complexity of the organizational system of non-profit associations and the increased need for integrated management and leadership. When one think about the organizational structure of associations based primarily on volunteer work, it seems that they should be simpler than commercial companies. In fact, it turns out that organizing volunteer work can be much more difficult. The bylaw of the organization is one of the most important documents that allows the entire association to function successfully.
The internal bylaw of the organization is complex in structure, since it must take into account the process of work, ethical and moral standards, and the legislation in force in the region. To simplify the system, non-profit organizations can be based in one place, so that the process of complying with local laws is easier. Additionally, the association can become incorporated, which will simplify the legal process and may allow for a preferential tax rate (Wayne, 2007). The bylaws should address the management of the association, concern for the health and behavior of volunteers, methods for ensuring performance, and promote the importance of teamwork (Wayne, 2007). The leader of a non-profit organization must also address this whole set of factors, while using additional skills to motivate their employees. The main role of the leader should be the correct distribution of tasks in order to achieve the fulfillment of day-to-day goals for the overall mission.
In conclusion, non-profit organizations can be even more difficult to organize than profitable ones. There are several ways to simplify this structure: basing in one region and becoming incorporated to simplify taxation. Volunteers work under a strong leader who must address the mission intelligently, oversee performance, and care for their subordinates. Awareness of the complex organizational and leadership system helps appreciate the efforts of volunteers even more.
