Introduction

It is considered by many critics now that Avatar is more than just a movie. It brings the movie industry to a new level. This level has a better quality, absolutely new idea, incredible effects and, of course, it is extremely hard to reach this level for other movie-makers now.

The movie takes us to the spectacular new future where pulse-pounding action sets forth from a mythical planet named Pandora. Embroiled in the new world is a reluctant hero (Sam Worthington) that embarks on a journey of redemption and discovery as he leads a heroic battle to save a civilization (Manila Bulletin, 26).

Avatar is not just an extremely expensive primitive story about blue-skinned creatures grown from human DNA. There are many serious ideas and issues raised in this story: the idea of war and invasion in somebody’s private life and territory, the idea of love and friendship, honesty and belief.

Main body

The idea of war for resources reflects the main geo-political problem of a modern world. Though the story has a happy end, the creators of the movie wanted to demonstrate how much harm a group of people can bring to the whole nation just because of some personal interests. If we look closely to what is going on in the world today, we will see the similar picture. It is not a secret for anybody today anymore that all the wars in the third millennium mean just the same as a struggle for resources. The conflict of personal interests is what happening around us today and this problem was successfully reflected by James Cameron. He implemented this idea in the movie as a war between people and avatars that happened because of a rare mineral called unobtanium. In fact, this was the war for money.

Unfortunately, it was not only an invasion in avatar’s lives; the harm was also caused to the whole culture. Soldiers knew that the sacred tree Eywa connects all the creatures on the island, but listened to their branch commander and tried to destroy all the beautiful Pandoran wildlife, which was very valuable from biological and zoological point of view.

Nobody but the main characters cared for a history as well. Avatars were the unique creatures, which lived in a place with a rare nature and animals. Those who planned this invasion realized that by killing avatars they are destroying the history of the whole nation, the history of a beautiful civilization.

There is also a love story occurs between a human Jake Sully and an avatar Neytiri. Luckily, this power of love, friendship and trust helped main characters to overcome danger and to beat the enemy. Analyzing this idea, I came to realization that it is important to unite efforts against the enemy sometimes. I think, stating this idea Cameron wanted to urge all the people around the world to combine efforts in order to beat an enemy. This enemy is not necessarily a human being like in the movie; it might be cancer, terrorism or any other social issue.

Conclusion

I think that Avatar is a movie that made people over the world not only watch, but also think about current problems. The issue of war and violence, clearly stated in the movie, gave the audience not only the idea of what is going on in the world now, but also a possible solution for this problem.
