Beauty salons are acquiring popularity worldwide as well as in the UAE. Women and men want to look and feel good, so the number of clients of these companies is increasing. However, recent inspections have unveiled numerous violations in the industry that can result in negative outcomes for clients. For instance, over 1,200 salons were fined for poor hygiene that is one of the pillars of the beauty industry (Sathish par. 1). Apart from hygiene issues, many salons violate some regulations of DMCC. The implemented salon inspection revealed a number of violations of some DMCC rules and regulations.
One of the major issues revealed was the lack of the necessary documentation. For instance, employees did not have work cards and even health cards. At that, these documents should be present when an individual is hired. According to DMCC, all employees of salons “should get valid occupational health cards issued from Dubai Municipality – Clinic & Community Health Section” (“Health Requirements for Massage centers and Spa” 2). The compliance with such norms is critical, and it is common in many countries including the USA. These regulations ensure clients’ safety as visitors can be sure that they will not be infected during procedures they receive in a salon (Walsh 244).
Another serious violation detected was the absence of the corresponding licenses. Some employees did not have the necessary credentials to perform tasks they carried out. Some think that licensing is needed to enhance the prestige of a salon and an employee (Simon 3). However, it is essential to ensure clients’ safety. Salons and particular professionals obtain the license to provide certain services, which is a common practice in many countries (Sandlin 184). The license can be regarded as the evidence that a particular individual has the necessary skills to provide services fully and properly. Importantly, massage is the procedure that can cause significant harm to people’s health if performed improperly.
It was also found that the major reason for the absence of documents was the employees and the management’s lack of understanding of the regulations or even complete ignorance. At that, the information concerning such regulations is freely available online, and there are even contact details of officials who handle such issues (“Occupational Health Card (OHC)” par. 1). The salon’s staff tended to stress that they did not have any problems and provided high-quality services.
The major recommendations include the provision of certain training on DMCC regulations. The salon’s management should implement an online research and address the corresponding officials who could provide all the necessary details concerning this matter. Clearly, all the necessary health and work cards, as well as licenses, should be obtained. It is possible to stress that the compliance with rules concerning clients’ health is a competitive advantage of any salon. If these recommendations are ignored, sanctions should be imposed. It can also be effective to draw people’s attention to the problem as clients will encourage salons to obtain the necessary documents if they attend facilities that comply with all the necessary regulations.
In conclusion, it is possible to note that the inspected salon failed to comply with the DMCC regulations regarding the presence of health and work cards, as well as the corresponding licensing. It is recommended to train the staff and make sure all the documents are obtained. It can also be effective to draw people’s attention to the problem as salons will be eager to comply with rules if clients choose facilities that follow all the necessary rules.
