  • Explain what he means by linearity, conformity, and standardization as these concepts pertain to education.
    • Many things are enthralled to in education, and Robinson underlines the difference between linearity, conformity, and standardization. Linearity is a kind of a straight line in life or the idea that people should have a starting point and go through it, doing everything right during the rest of life (Robinson, 2010). Conformity, in its turn, is a possibility to compile with standards and pay attention to what can impassion and excite people in their intentions to complete tasks and achieve goals. Finally, standardization is a concept to maximize compatibility and promote safety. In other words, it is an obligation to follow standards and be sure to reach positive results.
  • Why does he feel that our current model of insisting that everyone prepare for college is perhaps not a good idea?
    • Many people around the globe are obsessed with the idea of going to college as an obligation of a linear narrative. In his talk, Robinson (2010) underlines that this obsession is not usually correct because not every person needs to go to college or go right the moment he or she graduates from a school. Time is an obvious requirement to recognize their skills and talents. People directly depend on the circumstances they do not actually create and believe that it is their responsibility to meet those standards as it is the only way to do right. It is impossible to predict the outcomes of human development, and students need space to understand what they want or can do.
  • Robinson does not provide specific recommendations to revolutionize our education system. As a product of various education systems yourself, make a recommendation for a big change in the current model, and explain clearly the effect you think you change would make so it complies with what Robinson endorses.
    • Despite numerous attempts to create a perfect system of education, the current model can hardly be defined as the only good one. Many changes and recommendations can be developed regarding the principles offered by Robinsons as well as personal observations and experiences. A learner-centered model of education is the best option for modern students. Sometimes, it is impossible for a student to understand what he or she wants. The task of educators is not to impose various ideas but analyze student’s behavior and skills to offer options and focus on his or her self-development. There is no need to force a student to study something, but help understand the priorities and follow them.
