Introduction
Chuck Close is an American painter and artist who is renowned for his photorealist skills. He has painted massive-scale portraits that hang in the majority of international collections. The painter has made great use of oil and acrylic painting, photography, mezzotint painting, and various additional media to express his artistic message. Although the paints and tools used by Chuck Close are common, what stands out is his unique painting mechanism. Chuck Close’s concentration on the human face in painting and photography, makes his work simple and intangible.
Chuck Close Style
Chuck Close’s adverse childhood background inspired the majority of his paintings and messages. The painter’s father was ill when he was young affecting his perception of life and human suffering. Consequently, he resorted to painting as a way of relieving himself from psychological pain (Anscomb 478). He adopted a unique artistic style that involved the use of oil and acrylic paintings to construct human face portraits. The images made by Chuck Close appear to be viewed through a thick layer of glass (Anscomb 490). Moreover, the portraits appear as reflections, ripping on the water’s surface. Chuck Close is famously known for his paintings and photographs made up of a fragile grid set on the diagonal.
Personal Opinion
Chuck Close’s unique methodology of utilizing oil, acrylic, and paintings for portraits communicates much about his past and intentions. I found Chuck Close as an outstanding photorealist who shows love for his family through painting. Many artists are inspired by environmental, social, economic, and political issues. However, Chuck Close’s works were significantly inspired by his close family members. Therefore, I opine that Chuck Close’s style is unique in the application of panting tools and motivation.
Conclusion
Painters and artists communicate various messages through their works as inspired by their experiences. Chuck Close is one of the painters who used oil, mezzotint, and acrylic paintings to express his feelings. His portraits appear as if viewed from a thick glass layer, and reflections rip on the water’s surface. The unique painting style adopted by Chuck Close portrays him as creative and one who loved his family.
