In my opinion, photography is an art and should have the same recognition as other artwork forms. Photography means drawing with light while using a camera to capture illumination. Art is the application or expression of human creative ability and imagination, often in the form of visual work, like a painting or a sculpture, that results in creations valued predominantly for their aesthetic appeal or emotional impact (Matt, 2022). Everything has altered since digital images became commonplace. Although taking a great photo has become much simpler, distinguishing between a memorable picture and a timeless masterpiece appears subjective. Generally, photography is an art because it employs a wide variety of human actions to produce visual, aural, or performing artifacts that express the author’s inventiveness or technical expertise and are meant to be admired for their beauty or psychological effect.
Photography uses various human actions to create visual, auditory, or performing artifacts. Using a specific style, viewpoint, lens, kind of lighting, or color, the photographer can produce art in any genre, including still life or portrait. For instance, during the lectures, one of the examples that were used to showcase how the efforts of a person contribute to the success of the artwork is Gregory Crewdson’s Untitled (Beer Dream) 1998 piece. Crewdson’s style incorporated a lot of activities before generating the picture. Essentially, it depicts a man gazing down at a light beam cast from the top right corner of the image and standing on the sidewalk between the road and the lawn. Some critics argue that photography should not be considered art because no talent is involved. However, from Crewdson’s work, it is clear that significant effort is required to produce a masterpiece.
Photography is an art because it expresses the author’s technical or imaginative expertise. Untitled (Beer Dream) 1998 piece shows Crewdson’s inventiveness and creative skills. According to Matt (2022), getting the ideal shot involves a variety of artistic abilities. Photographers know that they should record commonplace events and devise creative ways to showcase them in spectacular still images. Some cameras include settings that enable users to capture a timeless appearance. Yet, the key to using these features effectively is knowing when and how to utilize them to create perfect pictures.
Photography is an art because it is meant to be admired for its beauty or emotional impact. The timing and anticipation of minute aspects of notable events distinguish artistic photographs from regular pictures because photography records emotions (Matt, 2022). The powerful feelings are in these little details, which skilled photographers can capture. Dorothea Lange’s Migrant Mother (1936), an example from the lectures, shows a woman holding the chin and two children holding the shoulders from both sides. The snapshot depicts a scene that exemplifies the deprivation, desperation, and starvation many Americans experienced during the Great Depression.
In brief, photography is an art since it uses a variety of human actions to create aural, visual, or performative artifacts that show the author’s creativity or technical proficiency and are intended to be admired for their beauty or psychological impact. However, like all other forms of expression, photography calls for hard effort, perseverance, and an acute eye for the remarkable. Anyone may pick up a camera and take pictures of the world around them. Yet, the genuine photographer is skilled in using the available light, positioning their subjects, and creating the ideal shot.
