Coca-Cola utilized total quality management principles to establish a quality training cycle that is on par with the needs of the organization. An example includes the Coca-Cola training in Health and Safety. The training aimed to reduce work-related injuries. The following training cycle was used:
- Setting objectives: The objective set by internal trainers was to reduce work-related injuries. This was approved by the senior management as the company had recorded a relatively high number of work-related injuries in the previous years.
- Identification of the training need: Does the firm’s present position indicate the presence of gaps in the existing skills, knowledge, and attitude? A greater number of work-related injuries were reported.
- Choice of training method: Several training methods are usually employed, and they include live drama boot camps and a learning management system (Hill 2017, para. 14)
- Evaluation: An evaluation is usually conducted to measure the effectiveness of the training delivered, i.e., whether the learning acquired brought about required changes (Oakland 2014, p.319). It was observed that the proportion of severe injuries and accidents reduced and the company is experiencing lower Lost Time Incident Rates since the implementation of the program (The Coca-Cola Company 2018, para. 9).
