Advertisement is one of the most influencial ways to incorporate a product or a notion into society’s field of awareness. There are many types of advertising; however, one of the most prominent and effective are commercials. They allow to perceive the subject of advertisement both audibly and visually. In addition, they allow to create a spectacle, such as in the case of Pepsi commercials that play during the Super Bowl. The scale and spectacular nature of these commercials help the brand promote its name long after the advertisement has stopped playing. An excellent example of such longevity is a 2004 Pepsi commercial starring Britney Spears, Beyonce, Pink, and Enrique Iglesias.

The primary reason why this advertisement works so well in terms of captivating the viewer is the sheer scale of production. In 2004, the main performers were at the top of their popularity. The cover of We Will Rock You by Queen, performed by Britney Spears, Beyonce, and Pink, is a powerhouse of a melodic act. The production value of recreating the Roman Coliseum with an abundance of people in the crowd leaves a strong impression (GlassworksVFX, 2010). To this day, to see some of the most iconic stars of the 2000s on one screen is mind-blowing. The show does not go along without a positive message, which is displayed through women refusing to fight for the man’s amusement. I found this idea captivating, and it affected how I view media, such as movies and TV shows – it is a lot more rewarding to see women unite and succeed rather than fight.

In conclusion, advertisement, commercials specifically, has a powerful influence on people. The more of a spectacle is presented to the viewer, the stronger the desired effect, be it the promotion of a product or an idea. Pepsi commercials for the Super Bowl are able to achieve the heights of advertisement impact through impressive production value and star power presented on screen. In addition, the inclusion of a positive feminist message is highly commendable.
