Summary
It goes without saying that communication skills play a highly essential role in a person’s professional development in almost any sphere. In the majority of facilities, corporate goal achievement presupposes the involvement of numerous specialists and their collaborative performance. At the same time, all people have their own individual characteristics, needs, demands, and expectations, and in the case of misunderstanding, biases and conflicts may occur. Thus, communication skills are highly required to avoid interpersonal issues, articulate the organization’s vision, missions, goals, and tasks, motivate workers, and ensure their commitment to performance.
Communication Skills in Real Estate
Aiming to obtain a career as a real estate appraiser, I clearly understand the significance of communication in this field. On the one hand, this occupation is closely connected with analysis – indeed, a competent real estate appraiser should have strong math, analytical, and organizational skills to appraise a property after reviewing large amounts of data. On the other hand, excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills are essential for the provision of quality customer service. As previously mentioned, all people are different, and their individual features, such as age, gender, religion, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, and culture, may affect their decisions and perceptions. Moreover, a considerable number of them are not familiar with the process of real estate appraisal. In this case, a specialist should be able to approach every client considering his unique characteristics to assess his needs, provide all necessary information, explain the findings, and give recommendations. Applying cultural competence and emotional intelligence, a real estate appraiser should aim to build solid relationships with clients on the basis of trust to provide essential support and keep them fully satisfied.
At the same time, excellent communication skills are necessary for the interaction with colleagues, subordinates, real estate agents, and other specialists in this sphere. As real estate-related activities traditionally presuppose the involvement of several specialists, their coordinated actions are required for appropriate outcomes. However, in this case, all members involved in the appraisal process should negotiate, share information, and plan tasks. The ability to communicate with others leads to mutual understanding and the avoidance of conflict situations. In addition, communication is essential for leaders as it allows to assess subordinates’ needs and suggestions, perceive their individual features, strengths, and weaknesses, and motivate in a way to increase their job satisfaction and commitment.
Job Posting in My Career Field
On the basis of the analysis of job proposals on the LinkedIn website, I may proudly say that I understand the significance of communication skills. In general, the majority of proposals that relate to real estate appraisal specify the communication with clients and the coordination of the process with other specialists. Thus, as previously mentioned, interaction with customers and colleagues requires the ability to communicate efficiently in oral and written forms. The performance in real estate presupposes interaction with people on the basis of mutual trust and respect, educating them, and providing all necessary information considering their needs, cultural peculiarities, and individual features. At the same time, team members are all different as well – thus, communication is necessary to assess their characteristics to guide cooperation, articulate common goals and the ways of their achievement, and motivate them. That is why I believe that I should assess my communication skills, identify gaps, and focus on their improvement, as it will be challenging for me to become a competent specialist without them.
