Introduction
Organizational concept (decision making) plays an integral part in the success of a given organization. It can be said to be the process that results in the selection of a course of action that will be most suitable among the many alternatives present. In the long run it ends up with a choice. On the other hand it can be said to be a strategic process. It involves efficient and proper implementation of strategic plans to achieve desired organizational goals (Stanhope, 2002, p.12).
In coming up with decisions in an organization, multiple divisions have to be involved in this process. This therefore means that gaining acceptance from all the stakeholders might be a challenge (Stanhope, 2002, p.10). In coming up with a decision, the impact that the decision will have on other workers should be evaluated. If not well calculated and anticipated the implications of the decisions can affect the overall running of the organization.
Schools like any other organizations need good decision-making to enhance their operations. There are many competitive pressures that are facing schools in their pursuit of providing quality education. This paper will therefore focus on my school and how it has embraced technology to improve decision making in trying to attain organizational goals. In trying to improve decision making my school has used decision support systems.
This system has helped the management in decision making by compiling information from the available raw data, personal knowledge and documents to identify and solve problems thereby making the right decisions. In the long run the school has increased personal efficiency and facilitated interpersonal communication. Since this is a learning institution it has promoted learning and training by increasing organizational control in the school.
Application
This system has used a structured avenue that has included the management, students and the development approach. The system has been able to manage, retrieve and manipulate most of the information that was not structured in an electronic format. This has allowed the management to make decisions in a particular problem area. Although it has not provided the ultimate decisions it has gone in a long way to help in decision making.
On the other hand it has provided special expertise through the stored facts, rules and procedures (Gachet, 2004, p.13). Different users have been created to use the system which has opened up the necessary space. Both the teachers and students have been given an opportunity to present their queries thereby increasing interactions and communication. It can be learnt that technology has influenced good decisions as all the people are involved at one stage or another.
Students have also been encouraged to feel free and ask any questions that they need attended to, which has enabled the management to come up with sound decisions. This is an investment that needs proper evaluation before the system can be developed. There is need for evidence regarding the cost effectiveness and efficiency of using this technology. Therefore the school needs to look at the student achievement and research on technology.
The management was able to improve decision making. This is because after all the information was well managed they were able to analyze and come up with the best decision. In the long run decision making is made fast which minimizes losses that would have been seen because of a long decision making process. Since this is a technological era, the use of technology in school operations puts the students in a good position in using the procedures, rules and stored facts.
Incorporation of technology has always been more positive than negative (Marakas, 1999, p.17). So, the school will be positively affected as it will improve the decision making process. Technology has always made things run smoothly. The school will positively benefit through an enhanced communication link because the students will easily give contributions they want attended to both in the long and short run. This will mostly be through a well facilitated interpersonal communication avenue.
On the other hand the school will get some positive benefits by being able to automate the managerial process. This is through the enhanced use of technology in solving problems within the school. The learning process will be enhanced when the students feel free to give contributions on problems they are facing and how they can be solved. This is healthy for the school in order to improve on its performance.
Conclusion
Although this technological improvement is good for the School, it does not necessarily offer the decision but needs the management to be sensitive in evaluating the best decisions that will work well for the school. In addition, this is a system that will need goodwill for it to succeed. If there is no good will from the school as a whole then the system will not return the expected results that will improve the decision making process.
To improve on these, the management has to come up with proper evaluation methods that will ensure that whatever decision that is settled on will be effective. This is because there might be many alternatives and hence the need to choose the best. In feeding information to the system there is need for cooperation from all the stakeholders to ensure that the best solutions arte arrived at. There is need for sincerity in the engagements or else the approach may end up failing.
When information is readily converted into an electrical format it can be easily accessed and analyzed unlike when there is no technology and this will therefore demand that the given players provide the correct t information.
The organizational concept mostly revolves around a process that will result in the selection of the course of action that will be most suitable among the many alternatives present. In using this system to make decisions the school was able to choose among the best through information that was converted into electrical formats. The management is tasked with coming up with the decisions that will enhance the learning activities and ensure success.
Traditionally without technology all the decisions were made without properly incorporating other members of the school. Good decisions are only made after a proper incorporation of all the ideas has been considered. Such an activity is not easy to achieve unless there is the use of technology. After using the decision support system, the school management was able to get view from even the students. On the other hand it was able to get the right information that was stored electronically which made referencing easy hence improving the decision making process.
Literature review
It can be said that organizational concept (decision making) plays an integral part in success of a given organization (Sauter, 1997, p.21). This is through the process that results in the selection of the course of action that will be most suitable among the many alternatives present.
In coming up with decisions in an organization like my school multiple divisions have to be involved in this process. These divisions will involve all the departments and areas that take part in the day to day running of the school. The main reason behind these is to avoid conflicting scenarios in the course of making decisions. This therefore means that gaining acceptance from all the stakeholders might be a challenge. More so if they were not involved in any of the stages in making the decisions.
The decision support system has been able to manage, retrieve and manipulate most of the information that was not initially structured into an electronic format (Silver, 1991, p.25). Information should be stored electronically for easy evaluation and analysis as the management can be able to compare and make the best decision out of the available choices. This has allowed the management to make decisions in a particular problem area.
The available data will be able to provide the key focus areas that need special attention. Although it has not provided the ultimate decisions it has gone in a long way to help in decision making. In addition different users have been created to use the system which has opened up the necessary space.
Both the teachers and students have been given an opportunity to give their queries thereby increasing interactions and communication. Although this technological improvement is good for the School, it does not necessarily offer the decision but needs the management to be sensitive in evaluating the best decisions that will work well for the school. In addition this is a system that will need goodwill for it to succeed.
