Information technology (IT) in healthcare is undoubtedly essential in the modern digital age. It can currently be found everywhere in medical institutions, from electronically registering patients to sending them online the results of their blood tests (Brooks, 2019). This sector and the professionals working within its framework have received deserved recognition for the countless and helpful innovations they have brought to the industry as a whole. At the same time, patients need more accessibility, transparency, and personalization of medical care. Therefore, it is necessary to be aware of the critical success factors for health IT professionals.
One of such factors is the focus on maintaining patient privacy while improving patient care. Brooks (2019) emphasizes this aspect in his article, recognizing that while healthcare IT includes many types of technologies and systems, a significant center on patient privacy is needed. Simultaneously, Guyton-Ringbloom (2020) acknowledges that strengthening leadership skills is an essential activity, which will make a productive contribution both to the profession and to the achievement of the career goals of a particular individual. The Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT) focuses on having a sincere desire to help others, the ability to handle high volumes of work, and accuracy in the process as success factors for health IT professionals (“The importance of healthcare information technology,” 2020). Thus, all of it defines the required components of the health IT function.
To summarize, critical success factors for health IT professionals include a focus on maintaining patient privacy, strengthening leadership skills, a sincere desire to help others, the ability to get high volumes of work, and accuracy. It is essential for the development of the profession and, therefore, for the improvement of health care. I can use my practicum experience to assist me in meeting my career goals by making a productive contribution through work habits based on diligence and organization. Moreover, it can happen by acting effectively with other team members, promoting its overall goals of helping people.
