Confusion always arises when two people disagree on a certain concept especially if they are experts or professionals in a certain field like medicine. For instance, when researcher X agrees to a certain concept and researcher Y disagrees with the same concept, confusion has to arise between who is right and who is wrong. In a field in where discipline is subjective, health care providers are misled, organizations and institutions perform misguide, facts are controlled and only a few of them are believed, but the query is how can the reality be obtained? (Salvador, 2008, par.1).
Some circumstances or situations like in the case of controversial diseases, disorders, or illnesses require the concerned individuals to think critically. Critical thinking involves or entails making a decision based on the truth and facts, and differentiating opinion and facts. For instance, diseases like fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, and multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS) require the providers, researchers, and patients to think critically and be creative in order to get applicable solutions and obtain the real truth and facts. They need to evaluate their thinking and come up with assumptions in order to form assertions or statements based on solid evidence and sound logic. Such controversial diseases may lead to an individual being unable to perform their duties as expected and also the etiology or the cause of the illness may be controversial. The concerned individuals need to think critically since at times it becomes hard for the affected individuals to access economic assistance from the compensation system of the employees in case they end up being disabled. In addition, some of these illnesses do not have a defined cure though some treatment may have been offered through controlled clinical trials, that led to remedy or lessening of the symptoms. Moreover, within the medical care delivery system, some of the diseases like fibromyalgia are regarded as non-illness since they do not have deviations after physical assessment, lack of investigative tests which are objective and broad relationship with other known medical problems like multiple chemical sensitivity and chronic fatigue syndrome. Therefore, healthcare providers, researchers, and patients need to think critically in order to come up with the appropriate solution and find the real truth and facts (Salvador, 2008, par.2).
Issues pertaining to truth or mission of truth is a frustrating, discouraging, tiring, and long journey because most of the individuals who have industries or organizations ties may attempt to mislead other people. The main purpose why most individuals do this is due to personal interest. Such people are not concerned with the wellbeing or welfare of the public. They only want to gain, hence, they can do anything including lying in order to acquire much and become successful as a result of misleading others. However, such individuals do not go far because it reaches a point where they cannot mislead others or the people will have identified them early. Health care providers are not left behind in this game of misleading especially if they are dealing with controversial illnesses, they may mislead a patient in order to gain a lot of money. Some of them can not treat some of the diseases but they pretend they are in a position to handle such. At times their games may work but sometimes it becomes unfortunate to them especially if the condition of the patient worsens or the patient dies. Hence, it is very important for people to wary or to be cautious of misrepresentations, financial ties, conflict of interest, and unclear information (Salvador, 2008, par.3).
