One of the works that need to be discussed is “What’s going on,” a song by Marvin Gaye, an American musician that was released in 1971 (Andersen, 2003). It is paramount to note that it is regarded as one of his best works, and many view it as a masterpiece. The fact that the artist wanted to change the direction of his music also should not be overlooked. The interest of the audience for this type of music has been increasing, and many musicians have started to record the music that is socially conscious. Another aspect that is worth mentioning is that the founder of the company was not interested in politics, but an artist was able to convince Berry Gordy, Jr. that this kind of music needs to be recorded. Moreover, other artists were given much more creative freedom (Clague, 2010). The rebellious spirit of Marvin Gaye is respected even nowadays, and his music is referenced in all kinds of media. The fact that he receives awards for his craft even after his death indicates that the music that he has produced is timeless.

Also, it is important to understand that he was able to affect the culture as a whole and it shows that a particular form of media may have an enormous influence on the population.
