Death penalty dominates considerably within the American law. Numerous politicians have fronted varying opinions on the matter. This is evident in the current politics of Tennessee, USA, especially in the Hamilton County. Individuals who commit capital offences usually face the death penalty as a retaliatory measure (Stearman 16). Nonetheless, this provision has been condemned by the human rights lobby groups and other political activists who hope to attract and retain more supporters based on their position on the matter.
Contextually, Guy Satterfield, who hopes to succeed Ron Littlefield in the Chattanooga mayoral seat, has demonstrated a considerable stance on the matter. This politician hopes (while in office) to create a bill that will restructure the death penalty to favour the aspects of human rights. Guy Satterfield uses various evidences to support his position on the matter.
Everybody has a right to life regardless of their crime. This argument tends to disregard the death penalty for the benefit of the TN state. Other aspirants including Rob Healy, Andy Berke, and Tom McCullough among other politicians have demonstrated ambiguous positions regarding the matter. Various speeches produced by Guy Satterfield have condemned the aspects of death penalty based on his considerable arguments.
Evidently, death penalty cannot be used to reduce crime. There are various reasons why people commit crimes. There is need to address such issues vastly so as to avert criminal incidences. Issues ranging from unemployment to inequality in the society have contributed immensely to the mentioned crimes (Stearman 34).
In this context, it is crucial to claim that death penalty cannot be effective in reducing crime within Tennessee and beyond. Upcoming political aspirants have majored on this issue so as to attract various supporters. There is need to bar politicians from manipulating the law to favour their political interests. It is agreeable that death penalty can bar individuals from committing capital offences; however, there are other offences that must be curbed in time before such culprits engage in the condemned capital crimes.
Guy Satterfield hopes to enact considerable changes in regard to death penalty. For example, it is arguable that the culprits of capital crimes can be rehabilitated for the better. In fact, they can change considerably and act as examples for the new generations.
This thwarts the need to execute them in the context of death penalty. The human rights lobby groups have concurred with Guy Satterfield on his speeches. They intend to discount the death penalty. It is crucial to understand the provisions of this retaliatory measure so as to argue for or against the concerned subject.
The law, since its enactment, has had considerable oppositions from various groups as indicated earlier. Being an election time, politicians from the Hamilton County have had contentious positions on the matter. Nevertheless, the provisions of death penalty are unfair to the mankind. Capital offences can be subjected to such initiatives regardless of the situation (Jackson and Diane 76). This argument is supported by various literatures written to discern various aspects of the death penalty.
Personally, the politician’s views regarding the death penalty are correct. The state should address various factors that contribute to the concerned crimes rather than punishing the culprits inconsiderably. This will also reduce other potential crimes within the Hamilton County and beyond. The stance taken on the matter is important based on its contentious contexts. There is need for equality, viable education, employment opportunities, and social wellbeing.
