Introduction
The webtext’s purpose is to inform the target audience on the specifics of the dentist practice and some of the significant relevant issues associated with it. Mainly, the text focuses on the increasing amount of oral cancer cases and the role of dental hygienists in preventing it (Dental Hygienist). The essay’s target audience includes practicing dentists, consumer and academic organizations, and theoretical scholars incentivized to inform the broader populace on the importance of oral hygiene. The text utilizes visual, aural, spatial, and linguistic modes, omitting the gestural part being inapplicable to the website informative genre.
Description of the Modes
One of the critical elements of the website is the visual mode. The website’s front page includes a with the illustration of the dental room and the name of the essay in a large distinctive font (Figure 1).
It immediately engages the viewer with the topic by presenting a visually pleasing and comprehensive picture of the webtext’s topic and intended audience. Each topic paragraph includes a thematic illustration to give a visual clue to the viewer regarding each paragraph’s theme (Figure 2).
The illustrations also help emphasize the main points and ideas of the paragraphs and present them attractively and clearly. The website also includes a short informative video fragment that summarizes the reading part in a combined aural and visual format.
As a spatial mode the webpage utilizes wide side margins to concentrate the viewer’s attention on the text body in the middle part. At the same time, the sides of the webpage are clear of any distracting elements, with the navigation bar fixed at the top of the webpage (Figure 3).
This way the viewer can at any time switch to the required section of the webtext without additional scrolling. The current webpage section is always highlighted on the navigation bar for ease of navigation. The webtext is divided into named paragraphs for an good general look and easy readability. The paragraphs emerge from the invisible part of the webpage while scrolling down, creating a dynamic feel in a static text.
The webpage utilizes primary colors – black and white – and pastel tones of light gray and turquoise to bring elegance into the design. The palette can also be associated with the medical sphere evoking the notions of sterility and cleanliness, further emphasizing the essay’s subject. The use of easily readable fonts like Times New Roman and Arial ensures an easy text perception by the viewer. The overall minimalistic design of the webpage is aimed at effectively conveying the essay’s message and engaging the viewer in the topic. The lack of distracting elements ensures the maximum concentration of the viewer’s attention.
As a linguistic mode the text utilizes first-person form to present a personal view on the matter and establish a closer connection with the audience. This way, the viewer might perceive discussed ideas with more engagement. Representing the topic through individual experience based on extensive research aims to demonstrate the legitimacy of the presented ideas and their value. The text combines this approach with a more formal tone of presenting certain general information with citations of credible sources to emphasize the importance of the discussed topics. The essay mixes theoretical knowledge, practical recommendations, and further research suggestions to form a straightforward step-by-step approach to the issue.
Conclusion
The webpage’s general design utilizes several approaches to ensure an easy perception of the text. The minimalistic user interface and color palette reduce the viewer’s cognitive effort. Using simple fonts and dividing the webtext into topic paragraphs enhances the readability. Thematic illustrations add diversity to the visual aspect of the engagement experience. The text’s mix of formal and informal tones adds to the relatability and credibility of the topic.
