What Are the Major Skills Jovita Carranza Has Demonstrated in Her Career at UPS That Have Made Her a Successful Leader?

Throughout her career, Jovita Carranza was capable of demonstrating a variety of skills and qualities which allowed her to become a successful leader. In particular, it is stated that from the very beginning, Jovita Carranza displayed such qualities as a strong work ethic and the commitment to the enterprise she was working for. She also showed eagerness to take on all the challenges that were provided for her, thus demonstrating the ability to learn and adapt to the new conditions and meet the requirements in a variety of situations. Jovita Carranza also exhibited the skill to efficaciously choose skilled and capable workers who would be able of doing their job in a highly professional manner, to provide them with continuous opportunities for development, and to create high-quality teamwork and interaction between these workers. Also, Jovita Carranza herself emphasizes the value of such characteristics as integrity, loyalty, commitment, the ability to create goods and services of very high quality, as well as the property of being socially responsible, which were highly appreciated by the organization that she had been working for several decades. Displaying such a wide range of skills and highly valued personal qualities permitted Jovita Carranza to become a successful leader.

Consider the Spiral of Experience That Jovita Carranza Has Traveled. How Has Her Experience Affected Her Ability as a Leader?

During her career in UPS, Jovita Carranza traveled the path from a simple part-time clerk in Los-Angeles to the vice president of UPS Air Operations; she served at a wide range of positions during her journey, including those of a workforce planning manager in Los-Angeles, of a district HR manager in Texas and later in Illinois, of a division manager for some operations, of a district operations manager, and the president of the Americas Region. It is clear that on her path, Jovita Carranza occupied positions that demanded progressively more and more skills and knowledge. It seems to be possible to state that, having developed a variety of skills and attained certain knowledge while serving in lower positions, Jovita Carranza was able to successfully apply her experience when she was moved to higher posts. Her new jobs required her to lead progressively larger numbers of staff and manage more and more operations. This permitted her to gradually, but steadily perfect her proficiency and competence as a leader, eventually allowing her to occupy the post of the vice president of the UPS Air Operations, one of the highest positions in the company.

Do You Think Jovita Carranza’s Performance and Rise in UPS Would Have Been Similarly Impressive if She Worked in the Government Sector?

It is possible to assume that if Jovita Carranza had worked for an organization from the government sector rather than from the private one, her performance and rise would not have been as impressive as it was in UPS. In particular, it should be pointed out that many organizations belonging to the government sector are not directly interested in making as much profit as possible, so it is unlikely that their management constantly attempts to find employees who display the best results and to promote them to enhance the performance of the whole company. Thus, it is unlikely that if Jovita Carranza worked for a governmental organization, she would have been provided with as many opportunities and given as many challenges as she received while being an employee of UPS; therefore, she would probably not have been able to develop and demonstrate her abilities and skills as a leader if no challenges were presented to her. Consequently, it can be hypothesized that Jovita Carranza’s rise would not have been so impressive if she had worked in the government sector.
