Introduction
Striving for the needs of the community is not easy; to address each of the community member’s problems and concerns, an individual approach is highly recommended. Without taking into consideration the specifics of an ethnical background of the community members, be it students, employees, owners of small business, etc., it is impossible to be sensitive about the needs of the people.
As a person who was brought up and worked in the environment of considerable diversity and is now married to a woman of a specific ethnical background, I believe that I am capable of addressing the needs of the people with a different cultural, ethnical or national background.
My Background
Born in Merced, CA, I have been exposed to diversity since childhood. Communicating with people of Mexican, Puerto-Rican, and many other backgrounds, as well as the people of different income and social status, I have learned about the basic educational, social and economical issues that they face.
My Experience
Apart from being raised in a diverse environment, I have been working in the military for ten years and visited several countries in the Middle East and Southeast Asia. I have also worked in Dubai as an ROTC instructor. As a result, I am also capable of working with people of different academic and socioeconomic background.
My Family Life
As I have already mentioned, I am married to an Asian woman, which means that I know a lot about the specifics of the Asian culture. In addition, as a father of two Métis children (Asian and white), I have learned much about the means to prevent various diversity-related issues up to racial profiling among children.
Conclusion
Therefore, I am aware of the basic issues that a person of a different ethical or cultural background can have in the USA and, therefore, am ready to provide such people with the required assistance.
