While the phrase “diversity” can be contentious, unclear, and tense, most people in the employment context describe it as including factors like race, gender, and ethnicity. A group or organization’s diversity contains various individuals with traits that contrast with our own (UMGC, 2022). The first step in developing a diverse workforce is the deliberate hiring of individuals with a wide range of traits and viewpoints.
Most businesses prioritize workplace diversity because it strengthens their teams and encourages creative problem-solving and higher productivity levels. Diversity, which includes well-known characteristics like color, gender, and ethnicity as well as ancestry, physical talents and traits, sexual orientation, marital status, military experience, and religious views, has many aspects, as was delivered from this week’s readings (UMGC, 2022). Diversity in the workforce is becoming increasingly popular, and businesses are becoming more and more conscious of the advantages of recruiting different candidates. Accepting the concept and exhibiting variety on a regular basis is the first step in developing distinct viewpoints and solutions to problems. Other tactics may include allowing people to express themselves freely, demonstrating leadership qualities, encouraging inclusivity and education, and serving as an example for younger people.
In hiring with diversity as a priority, management may have talent shortages and communication, stereotype, and cultural issues. Businesses must be aware of and adhere to laws governing equitable, moral, and nondiscriminatory employment practices and pay fairness (UMGC, 2022). Rethinking the hiring process and making adjustments to improve your image are two ways to deal with diversity concerns. Always keeping in mind the needs of the employees and maintaining focus on the main objective is essential. It is critical to weigh the organization’s total diversity against the caliber of its workforce.
