Home Interior
As a rule, the elements of the home environment and their arrangement are given enough attention only at the stage of the interior design and are quickly ignored after they become a part of the background. However, the specified oversight is rather deplorable since the arrangement of the interior elements affects an individual in a number of ways, determining one’s mood and attitudes, and reflecting one’s character traits. For instance, since the interior design of my house includes a lot of free space, large windows, and a light pastel color scheme, it helps to introduce positivity into my life and allows me to prevent a range of health issues, including both physical and mental ones.
Additionally, the interior of my house shows a perfect use of vertical space. Namely, it contains quite a number of tall bookshelves, which help to create an illusion of the room being stretched vertically. As a result, the low ceiling does not make the room feel unpleasant for a long pastime. The interior of my house might feel unremarkable to others since it is not intended to thrill or entice the viewer with unique design choices. Instead, the environment is quite basic, with every room featuring the minimum of the required furniture and several minor décor items, such as pictures and flowers in vases. However, the use of space, including the furniture items that stretch the rooms visually, as well as the palette color scheme and the use of mirrors that help to create an illusion of extra space, makes my house quite spacious (Grimley and Love 220). Therefore, my home environment combines the sense of coziness and spaciousness naturally, creating a unique atmosphere that suits my specific needs.
Comparing Interiors
Another place that I have visited quite frequently, and that I also enjoy visiting, is the house of my grandparents. However, unlike the almost minimalist design of my home environment, the place where my grandparents live fascinates me with the elaborate choice of details and the presence of multiple decorations.
Moreover, the color schemes of the two houses are quite different. Since my house is quite small, with a low-hanging ceiling, I deliberately chose light colors and mirrors as a crucial element of the design to emphasize the little room that it had and create an illusion of additional space. In contrast, the house of my grandparents is quite large, which must be why they chose to use a darker color palette for the rooms in it.
Moreover, the environment of my grandparents’ house is much busier than mine, with multiple items scattered across it. The specified solution was also supposed to make their house look cozier and smaller, which contrasted with the design of my room. Additionally, incorporating much more elements of design than my room, the space in the house of my grandparents looked significantly more cluttered, which also contributed to making it visually smaller.
Finally, a larger number of horizontal items and decorations as the means of making the space look tighter should also be mentioned. Combined with dimmer lights, it helped to reduce the sense of coldness and detachment that the presence of a large space created. Overall, my grandparent adopted an entirely different approach toward managing space in their house than I used in mine, which was justified by the significant difference in the area that each of the houses had. As a result, the disadvantages of each house were concealed effectively.
