Preamble
The United Student World Assembly is a non-governmental non-profit organization that aims at giving equal education and participation opportunities to all students irrespective of the country they come from or the educational establishment they study at. The primary goals of the organization include presenting equal opportunities to the students around the globe, attracting the public attention to the most burning issues of the society, discussing these issues and of the ways of their solution, taking specific actions in respect of those solutions, gathering the assembly meetings, etc. Moreover, the United Student World Assembly enables students to participate in social development, making decisions that are considered even by the governments of various countries. The United Student World Assembly understands that the youth is the future of society, so it grants the students the chance to start their activities in changing the world for the better, not in the future, but starting from today. Thus, to educate and to personally develop are the main goals of the United Student World Assembly.
Organizational Structure
The organizational structure of the United Student World Assembly is quite simple. It starts with the ordinary members, i. e., students from all over the globe who are concerned with social and political issues affecting their own lives and the existence of the whole world. The ordinary members receive information through the internet by accessing the official web page of the United Student World Assembly. The higher level of the organization is the Issues and Campaigns Committee that deals with the very issues of information and is responsible for involving as many interested students as possible in the discussions of the globally vital matters. Besides, there are two other committees in the United Student World Assembly: Convention & Event Planning and Membership & Outreach committees that deal with the organization’s international development. Each committee has its chapters in various regions of the world so that to be able to gather people and encourage them to exchange ideas on this or that critical issue of the time. The joint work of the committees results in the International Convention that serves as the highest body of the organizational structure of the United Student World Assembly.
The International Convention is assembled annually to discuss the most significant issues communicated by general members throughout the year via the Internet. The available members of the convention elect the speaker and the vice-speaker, while these committees’ members elect the heads of the committees, as mentioned earlier. All the officially registered members of the United Student World Assembly are invited to the International Convention to consider as many opinions and ideas as possible and find adequate conclusions. The locations for the meetings of the United Student World Assembly members are different as the International Convention takes place in a foreign country every year.
Decision Making
The United Student World Assembly is a reputable and influential organization with its own rules of conduct and decisions for internal organizational policies and the most critical external, mainly international, issues to be discussed and solved. The internal matters are vital as they ensure the proper organization of the United Student World Assembly and facilitate its development. Thus, for instance, the decisions for the organizational membership are taken not by the heads of the Convention but by the potential members themselves. Every applicant who displays a firm commitment to the goals of the United Student World Assembly is welcome to the friendly this family. Further on, the decisions concerning the issues that are to be addressed first of all are made collectively. In other words, all the members vote for specific problems that they consider vital, and the issues with the most significant number of votes are discussed first. Finally, the solutions negotiated for those issues discussed are also collective decisions and syntheses of the ideas expressed by all general members of the organization.
The external decisions, i. e. the ones regarding the significant social and political events discussed by the United Student World Assembly members, are also made collectively. Nobody in the organization can exclusively exercise the right for decision-making or imposes its will upon the decision of any of the committees of the United Student World Assembly or the International Convention. As far as the organization is a non-profit one, it has no Board of Directors or any other executive branch of the kind that might control the flow of freedom-loving students’ thoughts. Thus, decisions as for the solutions offered to such international issues as wars, unfair or democracy lacking elections, the violation of human rights and freedoms, etc. are communicated by the whole number of general members and committees delegates so that to arrive at the best and the most effective conclusion possible. As a result, collective decision-making, negotiating any controversial points, and open discussions of every fact touched are the primary rules of the United Student World Assembly.
Major Student Issues
Accordingly, the two main issues that students face worldwide are unequal access to education and unemployment, which deprives students, even the most gifted ones, of the opportunities to find jobs. The United Student World Assembly deals with these issues and tries to solve them through discussions, and specific actions are taken. Thus, the essence of the educational inequality issues lies in the fact that the high-quality educational establishments have tuition for their services nowadays, and not all families can afford their child to study. Another side of the issue is that certain regions, like Africa or Asia, experience the deficiency of universities and colleges with the proper level of education given.
The issue of unemployment is also a burning one as the number of young professionals cannot find jobs because of the lack of demand in the market or difficult economic conditions in some countries. In the regions where people lose their jobs because the companies have no funds to pay them, it is hard for young people to prove that they are worth paying, even in difficult situations. The United Student World Assembly tries to solve these issues by admitting all students to its membership and allowing them free and unlimited participation in discussions of significant issues. Moreover, the organization discusses how governments might facilitate educational opportunities for the poor and the further employment of gifted and successful students. Thus, discussion and specific activities are the primary tools with which the United Student World Assembly tries to involve students in developing the international community and changing the latter for the best.
