The article, titled “10 Tips to turn your Startup Dream into a Reality”, demonstrates how entrepreneurs can secure business success by developing good business ideas and implementing them into action using a set of tips (Toren para. 1). This paper uses some of the tips to elaborate on the short-term and long-term goals of the proposed drive-through café.
The author of the article argues that it is always important for business owners to differentiate their businesses from those of competitors by clearly defining their business ideas, not mentioning that they the businesses should always aim to address identifiable problems for them to succeed (Toren para. 3-4). The proposed drive-through café has been effectively differentiated from competitors due to the fact it mainly targets people on the move as their main customer base for espresso coffee and deserts. As such, the identifiable problem is identified in the context of fulfilling the needs of customers, who would like to have good quality coffee and deserts while moving about their businesses.
Another critical tip suggested by the author is developing clear, strong words that will get people to become excited about your business idea (Toren para. 5). In the proposed drive-through café, the idea that comes across is that the establishment will be interested in offering the best products and services using a blend of innovative concepts with old-fashioned ideas. Such a clearly stated idea, in my view, will get the people to become excited about the business and hence serve as the main selling point.
The concept of drive-through cafes has been tested by many. Hence it is expected that there will be establishments in Washington DC and other areas competing for the same market segment. However, the author of this article advises individuals wishing to set up a business to do their homework well, especially in terms of identifying the competition and customer base (Toren para. 6-7). While it is important to consider competition and customer base, the proposed drive-through café will also be located in an attractive location (Woodley Park, Washington DC) to gain the utmost competitive advantage.
The author is also clear that individuals with excellent business ideas should take time to define their customer base and determine their resource requirements (Toren para. 8-9). As already suggested elsewhere in this paper, the targeted customer base for the proposed drive-through café includes customers who would like to have their snacks served in their cars as they move on with their businesses. It is believed that quality and innovation will drive customers to be interested in sampling what the café will be offering and that the establishment’s guiding philosophy of providing quality products and services will go a long way in enhancing customer repeat behaviors and positive word-of-mouth. The resource requirements and potential sources of capital for the proposed business have already been identified.
Lastly, the author of the article advises individuals to build the prototypes of what they intend to offer to customers, do calculations to determine the financial viability of the project, and write a comprehensive plan detailing their journey from developing business start-ups to business success (Toren para. 10-12). The prototypes of the fresh espresso coffee and deserts to be offered by the proposed drive-through café are already in place, not mentioning that issues of funding and financial viability have already been concluded. According to the tips provided by this particular author, the only thing that remains undone is coming up with a comprehensive business plan for the proposed venture.
