The U.S. is a nation whereby election matters should be settled peacefully and legitimately solved by the Supreme Court without violence. The January 6, 2021 proceedings disturbed the 2020 presidential authentication (Schake and Robinson 534). The invasion of the Capitol building was the conclusion of activities and events undertaken or provoked by former U.S. President Donald Trump to maintain the presidency, which collectively amounted to a self-coup attempt (Holt 6). First, on November 4, while the votes were still being tabulated, Trump announced election fraud (“Opinion | Yes, It Was A Coup Attempt. Here’s Why” para. 4). He attempted to have the election recounted and replayed so that he, rather than Joe Biden, would be declared the winner (“Remarks by President Biden To Mark One Year Since the January 6Th Deadly Assault on The U.S. Capitol | The White House”). Trump should have waited for the entire process to conclude before filing his complaint using legal procedures. Therefore, the attempted insurrection of the federal administration was insurmountable damage to the American democracy since it interfered with the voting rights of citizens and equality.
Trump filled the courts with what he referred to as “my judges” with the support of Republican lawmakers. He successfully got three new Supreme Court judges appointed in the presidential election run-up (“Opinion | Yes, It Was A Coup Attempt. Here’s Why” para. 8). He made it plain that if the Supreme Court had to resolve an electoral dispute, he expected his justices to favor him. As a result, it was a breach of American democracy because Trump used his position to sway federal judges, mentally conditioning them to support him after claiming that the elections were not free and fair. Trump also fired members of his Cabinet and career employees who stood up to him. Trump bypassed Congress and appointed acting secretaries of defense and homeland security and the director of national intelligence for a brief period. Therefore, Trump made it apparent that candidate selection was based on personal allegiance.
In January 2021, Trump wanted individuals in place who were utterly reliant on him and likely to back him up in his bid to stay in power. Preparing sides for an election to favor one candidate violates democracy since it causes divisions among the people, intensifying claims of an unfree and unfair election (“Opinion | Yes, It Was A Coup Attempt. Here’s Why” para. 10). Trump threatened to derail Republican members of Congress’ careers if not supporting overturning the election results. Donald Trump even referred to the GOP as the “Trump Republican Party” during a rally on January 6 preceding the Capitol storming. 147 Republican congressmen, led by Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, eventually endorsed parts of Trump’s efforts to challenge election results and undermine the constitutional order, even after Trump’s violent mob stormed the Capitol (“Opinion | Yes, It Was A Coup Attempt. Here’s Why” para. 10). Hence, the Capitol revolt on January 6 signaled a severe problem in American institutions, as a sitting President refused to relinquish office peacefully and aggressively sought to reverse an election.
Instead of condemning the rebellion and marginalizing its leaders, the Republican Party rallied in the weeks following mainstreaming it. While these developments were problematic in U.S. politics, they sent a clear geopolitical message that the Biden presidency would not return to “normal” internationalism for the United States. The Trump administration would be in charge of a severely polarized society that is unsure of its place in the world (“Opinion | Yes, It Was A Coup Attempt. Here’s Why” para. 11). Political polarization infringes the democracy of the people as it hampers their freedom of voting since they perceive that an election is not credible and fair. Finally, the riots marked a potentially disastrous shift in American politics, an assault on democracy’s most basic foundations. All parties must agree on the game’s regulations for democracy to work: the fairness of the voting and counting process and the regular and peaceful transfer of power. Therefore, the events of January 6 illustrate what occurs when bureaucracies and elections are deemed untrustworthy.
America will constantly regain its position as the free world leader after the disastrous January 6, 2021, if it firms its democracy and shields against dictatorship, fights dishonesty, and endorses veneration for human privileges. Biden-Harris Administration officials utilize all available powers and resources to safeguard the right to vote. Safeguarding voting rights will further improve democracy, in addition to lobbying for legislation (“Fact Sheet: The Biden-Harris Administration is Taking Action to Restore and Strengthen American Democracy | The White House,” para. 10). From strengthening workers’ rights and unions, a fundamental pillar of modern democracies, to countering violent domestic extremism, the government has undertaken numerous initiatives to mend the foundation of American democracy. Strengthening democracy and eliminating authoritarianism will ensure compliance with voting rights laws, making it calmer for citizens to register as voters, and combating misinformation and disinformation, which are among the strategies that will ensure America is regaining its rank.
America is increasing its voter rights, issuing advice on the criminal and civil laws on the post-election auditing process. Changing voting techniques, such as primary voting and mail-in balloting, and adopting electorate safeguards related to all states will help the nation regain its position. Through democracy, citizens are granted equal voting rights, and partisan gatherings can spontaneously contest for elections and illustrative governmental consensus (Whimster para. 1). A multiagency Information Honesty Research & Design Taskforce will produce a plan to design specific tactics. Therefore, America will quickly eliminate misinformation and support informed decision-making by disseminating an informed public to enable a democratic nation.
Restoring Ethics, Transparency, and the Legal system will play a crucial part in combating corruption during American elections by developing an anti-corruption strategy. For the first time, the Biden-Harris Administration unveiled a comprehensive national strategy for combatting fraud (“Fact Sheet: The Biden-Harris Administration is Taking Action to Restore and Strengthen American Democracy | The White House,” para. 17). He urged citizens to continue working with Congress on measures compatible with the nation’s democratic norms that correctly handle the balance between the federal government to prevent future presidential abuses and curb corruption. No matter who is in charge, the U.S. administration will fight to guarantee that no department abuses its power or undermine another co-constitutional equal’s prerogatives. Thus, guaranteeing that all Americans participate fully in their republic will get America back in its democratic position.
The Biden administration has already prioritized equity and the promotion of fundamental rights, indicating the U.S. will regain its position. Empowering the federal society and the citizens will help America gain its democracy since citizens will be aware of their voting rights (Emerson and Michaels para. 1). Equality will further battle hate criminalities and improve the illegal justice scheme (“Fact Sheet: The Biden-Harris Administration is Taking Action to Restore and Strengthen American Democracy | The White House,” para. 18). Democratization denotes the evolution to a different democratic political rule, including functional political variations affecting an autonomous direction. Therefore, the Biden-Harris management and fairness worldwide will summon administrative and civilization partners and secluded sector associates to instill democracy in the nation.
Throughout the year ahead, the Biden-Harris Administration plans to maintain Washington’s pressure to do more to support democracy and make it illegal for a senator to block a bill’s consideration. After the tragic January 6, 2021, if America strengthens its democracy, protects against dictatorship, opposes dishonesty, and promotes reverence for human rights, it will consistently reclaim its place as the free world leader.
