Introduction

Paper work is an example of evidence that may be used by the police in investigating crime and criminal offence. It shows a statement that was recorded by a witness who was closely observing the suspected criminal. Some of the information that has been provided in the letter can help the police in following up the case. The witness has mentioned the number of the tomb that the criminal was seen and also his dressing. She has also given an estimate of his age and his probable weight. Even though the police arrived late after the lady had called them, the information that she gave will be reliable in assisting them to track the criminal. There is also the picture of the criminal in question and also of the lady. This will assist the police in clarifying any allegations that may be reported either by the criminal or the witness.

Investigations

The reliability of the above information will generally depend on how swift and strategic the police are. The criminal may have taken off when he discovered that the lady was observing him. There is also a very high possibility that he suspected the lady making a call to the police and hence taking off. If this was the case, then he would do anything to change his image so that he is not caught. However, if the police are fast enough, they will be able to track his movements before he thinks of tarnishing his appearance.

There is also the problem of relying on the information that is given by witnesses. This is mainly because what they see may not actually be the reality. For instance, it may be quite challenging to estimate the age and weight of an individual by simply looking at them. In the process of following after the criminal, the police may also be encountered by another person that could be having a similar dress code which may interfere with their investigation. However, the police are also holding the passport photograph of the criminal. This will assist them in clarifying their suspect incase they are encountered with a similar person. The paperwork evidence also shows a vivid description of the place that the criminal was seen last. It clearly shows a map of the place and the streets leading to the place. This will ensure that the directions are kept intact just incase different police are involved in the investigation process. It will also be necessary in sensitizing the police and the other residents in the area who will assist in the investigation process.

Conclusion

Paper work evidence is an example of some of the information that the police will use to investigate crime. This may not be the main evidence but the basic. The witness will always be summoned by the police incase they need to get any crucial information. However, the information that is usually given by the witness needs to be treated confidentially to facilitate the investigation process and also for the safety of the witness. It is obvious that the criminal in question has other important sources which can assist the police in carrying out investigations. The police will make good use of his relatives or the relatives of the affected victims to find out more information on their whereabouts. In using all the evidence that has been gathered, the police will report the necessary findings to the criminal investigation department. However, they may not be enough to establish that the criminal is guilty. It is basically the court procedures that will have to determine the ultimate of the suspected criminal.
