The last decade has been characterized by significant evolution in nursing practice. As a result, working places for nurses has moved to laboratories, community health centers, classrooms, home-health care and business sectors. Endowed with the primary goal to provide the best care for clients through research evidence, Evidence-Based Nursing (EBP) practice has had a remarkable influence in the provision of nursing care (Houser, 2014).
A number of models guide nurses through logical processes for the change to evidence-based practice. One of the proposed models is the Rosswurm and Larrabee conceptual framework that recognizes the use of research and standard nomenclature (Melnyk, 2011). Based on this model, for nurses to determine the usability of knowledge for clinical practice, they should be able to:
- Assess if there are enough grounds to back up research evidence
- Use standardized nursing classification systems to key out, relates problems with interventions, and recognizes desired outcomes, including relapse of patients having surgical treatment and untimely warning signs.
- Integrate nursing literature with research findings, and critically review any desired results.
- Invent a practice change design through implementing strategies for detecting early warning signs and communicating them effectively with other team members.
- Carry out and assess patients by identifying and managing problems in time.
Founded on the Lowa model evidence-based practice, a critical thinker should seek to determine organizations priority, the groundwork of the research, and the appropriateness for the acceptance of the modification in practice (Rycroft-Malone & Bucknall, 2013). The credibility and reliability of a decision is principal to the achievement of positive outcomes. In addition, the results of the process may benefit other practitioners and thus improve the quality of health care.
