Evidence-based practice (EPB) is necessary to provide high-qualitative healthcare services. It applies to any healthcare institution and any medical area. The evidence-based practice contributes to safety and confidence since it constitutes accurate diagnosing and treating based on a solid scientific background. Moreover, it helps to cope with contemporary healthcare issues, among which costs are of high priority. Thus, today healthcare costs are becoming more and more expensive, which leads to a variety of problems related to it. Evidence-based practices contribute to more qualitative and less costly healthcare services, and these issues benefit from EPB due to its developing assistance.
Nowadays, applying evidence-based practices is not as spread as it should be. According to a survey led by Bernadette Melnyk, dean of the College of Nursing at The Ohio State University, the use of EPB among chief nurses and their hospitals is relatively low (Ohio State University, 2016). Moreover, most of the hospitals are not fully meeting the key quality benchmarks due to ignoring EBP (Ohio State University, 2016). Thereby, one may notice that EPB is required for healthcare organizations to correspond to its designation. However, besides contributing to quality and safety, EPB may also decrease healthcare services prices (Ohio State University, 2016). Certainly, these factors are vital for patients, thus EPB is an integral part of any healthcare structure.
High healthcare prices lead to the appearance of another issue, namely the inaccessibility of medicine and the development of diseases in the country. Thereby, one may notice two major health costs issues, however, using EPB addresses both of these issues at once. It is due to the fact that they are related to each other, in other words, the second issue is a consequence of the first. The main principle of the EPB is to improve the quality of services, which will lead to an inflow of investments (Howlett et al., 2020). Certainly, investments supply would contribute to lower prices, as the management gets development opportunities. Consequently, as prices go down, more people will have access to health care services. Therefore, two main healthcare issues are solved, and this is exactly how these two issues benefit from EPB.
Moreover, cost savings in many healthcare organizations are generated by reducing spending on expensive technical tools and services to deal with rare or difficult diseases. It constitutes the next example of how do the abovementioned issues benefit from EPB. Namely, evidence-based practices contribute to more accurately diagnosing and treatment. Thus, the better difficult diseases are treated, the lower will be costs for therapy, which means a benefit for the organization. It is connected with the fact that the healing process is faster with high-quality treatment. Moreover, with a professional approach achieved due to the EPB, the possibility of relapse is excluded. And this, in turn, will also bring benefits to the organization in the future.
To conclude, one may notice that evidence-based practices applying are vital for the organization to perform better. However, more important is the possibility to cope with two health issues by using EBP. These issues are related to the costs of healthcare, namely the expensive services and the development of diseases due to the inaccessibility for people. One identified that EBP contributes to the increasing quality of services by leading to prices cut down and investments inflow. All these make these two issues, and patients, along with facility and staff, benefit from EPB.
